This is what I did today: took the cover off the voltage regulator….and increased my voltage output from 12v to 13v at idle, and 12.6v to 14.1v at about 2000rpms. I know this isn’t a long term solution, but does anyone have any idea what is going on? I can see the voltage drop as I slowly put the cover back on. And one time when I touched metal to metal, I blew the turn signal fuse. Other than this, the VR seems to function as expected, though it has never generated too high a voltage to natively cut out- but manually closing the cut out switch (lower spool) also opens the first switch (upper spool). I started this experiment in an effort to figure out why my voltage is so low under normal operating conditions.

Coolerman has a lot of good info on electrical, including how to swap in a 60 series alternator, which is internally regulated.
They are higher output, but I don't recall how much cowbell they put out...

I put one on my pig using his "kit". IIRC it's 60 amps vs 40.

hmm, I noticed my alternator hums when I turn on my new Kioto headlights. Maybe I should consider one.

I was thinking the same thing…between the Kioto lights, Sniper EFI, and Hyperspark ignition my ammeter needle get a lot more swing to it
