Proverbs, 16:18.......Pride goeth before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall.

Yeah. I believe this. I’ve been so proud of this project God have me a kick in the nuts.

Looks like we are starting over. Green tears are flowing.

I cried a little watching this.

Isn’t it weldable? I’ve seen cracks like that repaired.

I think technically yes. Sure. Weld it up and rock on.

If likely so it if I lived in Pakistan or if it had 180,000 miles on it (versus 18)

No, this one is coming out. The block from my 1984 “Ole Blue” 60 that has been serving as my coffee table since I replaced it last year. It’s going in.

I drank an hour xtra 4 Roses last night. It’s over. Pity party of one and some internet friends was fun. Now I’ve got to get to work again

But just for one moment......they all ran.

As a bit of tech I’m intrigued by the crack itself and the location. Obviously it’s part of the water jacket. If an overpressure failure I’d think other places would have failed first and evidence would exist such as oil in coolant or coolant in oil. If fatigue that means an underdesigned block, a possibility I guess. If from an impact and stress fracture seems like there would be some other indication (dent) on where it was impacted. If internal corrosion then a clean line break? Most likely I guess. Just curious, if you don’t want to discuss I’m ok with that certainly.

The pig will roam the hinterlands again, a good bet.

Your guess is as good as mine. I purchased this motor as a core. It was complete but not running. No idea. Maybe it froze and the plugs did not work.

Man that sucks! Sorry for your loss.

Maybe more than a few times.

Can’t believe the machine shop missed this. That’s the biggest bummer. I have a good block from my FJ60 sitting on my front porch.

What is nice about this build in the end though is I put it all together with new bolts and did not half ass anything.

It will be a lot of work but I’m going to at least have a clean platform to work with.

I’m already ordering parts and making a few changes for this next run.

"liked" good block sitting on front porch...next to the couch?
I would be sick. Good luck. A lesson for all to insure this stuff is thoroughly checked. Machine shops are notoriously not reliable in our area. A lot of horror stories of fully rebuilt motors blowing up.

Cam and I have a plan. The machine shop is pretty sick about this too. They gave me some nice freebies on this build so they are already in the hole. Obviously Cam will be out a bunch of time.

Luckily the only mandatory spends I have is a Toyota master gasket kit and a s*** ton of time.

I’ll have more room to do my power steering and line lock now.

Also I’m going to do a header this time around for 2 reasons.

One....the OEM downpipe I love so much is hitting the frame and making noise.

Two, I had to cut the entire ass of my exhaust out for the fuel tank so I’m going to go 3”
All the way out.

I hope they plan on expediting your new block!

60 series manifolds work in a pig?

Yes. Bolted right up to my collector.

Another reason is that my 40 has a 2 piece header and it also hits my frame. I’m going to use this good exhaust manifold on it.

And a really awesome re-birth it has been! Keep up the good work! And keep your head up.. I had a head gasket go on the machine shop rebuilt 4bt I put in my 60 years ago. Very upsetting, but fixable..

Back to work.

Got the tranny hump holes filled properly.

Just gotta paint it

I wish I still had some Lizard Skin. That stuff is on both sides of the hump and it is so nice and quiet.

I’ll likely put some foam sponge stuff under the shifter area like OEM 60s have when I reinstall.
