do you remove the stock bracket to install the IPOR front seat bracket? Might be a dumb question but I couldn't tell from the pic.

Yes I did - I cut it off and ground what was left relatively flat. The stock mounts were cracked pretty badly in the rear. They are free for the taking if anyone wants them. I think I posted some pics of them towards the front of the thread.

By the way - after driving the Pig some I LOVE the buckets!

I haven't made a ton of visual progress lately. I do have a replacement driver's fender (upper and lower) fit. I primed the whole fender and painted the upper w/ Rustoleum Canvas White which matched the stock white suprisingly well! The rattle can also ended up with a fairly nice smooth finish - so - I masked off the upper fender and sprayed the lower with Rustoleum Royal Blue which is a little darker than the stock blue but the closest Rustoleum blue. I was no where near as happy with the blue as I was the white so I have to try and find a closer/better blue. And of course it started raining as soon as I finished painting the blue so I now have some sanding to do also.

I've also been doing some research into sound/thermal insulation alternatives. So far the best candidate not considering price is Second Skin. I think I'll use it on the front floors and then some cheap foil type insulation from the hardware store on the roof.

:cheers:awsome work amigo!.............inspiring!, "Rusty" would never have come back to life without this groups help and advice!!

body panel alignment problems

I did a little work today but my time has been limited b/c my wife and I rescued two puppies from the middle of the road a few weekends ago.

I removed my old passenger front fender and started fitting a replacement (thanks Trollhole) but I have some alignment problems.

Pic 1 is the fender sat into place. I still need to trim off a bit from the bottom for it to fully fit into place.

Pic 2 is a view of how far off the alignment is. I can screw in the bolts along the top of the upper fender fine but the far rear bolt that bolts into the A-pillar is no where close. Also the front bolt where the lower fender bolts into the front valence is off too.

Does anyone have any ideas? My Pig is a '76 and the fenders are from a '75.

I don't care too much about the alignment. This is a trail truck anyways but if someone has a good, easy idea I'll try it.

I also finished painting the driver's upper and lower fender. I am happy with the upper's color (Pic 1 - Rustoleum Canvas White) but not the lower (Pic 2 - Rustoleum Royal Blue.) Pic 3 is a comparision of the Royal Blue to the stock blue.

I am going to try Ace Hardware Safety Blue. I've been told that it is a decent match. When I'm done I'll put on a think clear coat.

These are just a few pics of the trimming of the passenger's fender to fit above the IPOR slider.

Pic 1 - during the cut - if you look closely you can see a pencil line about 3/8 of an inch above my cut - that is where I'll need to make an additional cut for the fender to fit - I didn't want to cut too much at once and then have to weld.
Pic 2 - what came out of the fender - just like on the driver's fender I'm going to clean up the backside where rust starts and slather some POR on.

Liberal use of a hammer helped. Next tool is an angle grinder which will hopefully get the fender to align well enough.

I'm still struggling over finding a rattle can blue that I like. I want more of a metallic color than Rustoleum and have tried three Rustoleum blues. I think I've found a Duplicolor that will work nice. Its a little darker than stock but looks nice.

As you know, the truck was originally red and white. The blue as it came to me didn't seem very stock. I never much liked the color but as it wasn't a fashion contest, I also never paid it much attention.

Gotcha. I do not like the Rustoleum Royal Blue (current fender color) one bit. I'll post up some color samples for input soon.

I thought about going back close to the original red and white but it would be nice to be able to paint one body panel at a time as I get the body work done and not have a rainbow cruiser.

Trollholl would like it, though. Maybe he would come visit with his new engine.

MMM when can i bring the gayness.

Hijack off.

Looking good Steve. Glad to see you found a match.

It's not a match but its close - more metallic than I want but I think it will look OK. Plain blue Rustoleum just doesn't do it. I really just want something close enough that when I repaint a part (doors, fenders, etc) they don't look totally redneck but then according to Dan (aka: last night's drunk poster) I am a redneck...

Its raining so progress is slow today. I did get the passenger fender aligned better and the bottom cut off so it will fit flush with my IPOR sliders. I did a little trimming to allow my front tires to stuff without rubbing as much and am currently prepping the undeside of the lower fender for POR. I probably should cut out a 4 inch by 6 inch piece and weld in new metal but I'm pretty tired of welding for right now so two coats of POR on the undeside and one on the outer will do until I rip out the lower fenders for tub fenders.

I need to figure out a way to attach the lower fender to the Pig. One of the POs used a long screw and sank it through the lower fender and into the body. It was functional but not pretty. I think I'll weld a L-shaped piece of metal to the undeside of the lower fender and then screw into the body. I thought about tapping a hole into the sliders but I would like to keep the fenders unattached to the sliders if possible.

Today's progress - and what color to paint my Pig?

I was able to get both fenders to fit well and started painting them but now I have a problem.

I've tried seven colors and I'm not happy with any of them. (I have chosen Rustoleum Canvas White for the off-white and love it but need a color for the lower half of the truck.)

I have tried:
Three Rustoleum blues
Three Duplicolor metalic blues
One light green matte (camo)

So - any suggestions? ...there are a few requirements.

1) It has to be available in a rattle can.
2) It has to be less than $5 a can - I don't want to buy $10 cans.

I'm considering a matte color but haven't found any matte blues in rattle cans.

What does everyone thing about Rustoleum Canvas White for the stock white (which I am very happy with) and matte dark camo green for the lower area where my Pig is now blue? One concern is that the white is glossy and the green would be a matte. The glossy blues just show too much of the body damage and look BAD.

Any ideas? I need some suggestions quick!

Steve,

www.towerpaint.com Give them a call and a color code, and they'll send you rattle cans . Check out Ryan Scotts 55, he painted the whole truck with rattle cans from Tower, Cygnus White, and Nebulas Green(not sure about the spelling) but both are Toyota colors. I also ordered the Cygnus to paint interior doors and under the hood. Good company and quick turn around. Your pig is looking sweet, and I notice Lance fabbed that floor support for you. Good luck with the paint.

I guess it pays to read the whole thread before posting, just read your can price limit, their price is more than ten bucks per can.

Thanks for the quick response Lou. I've looked at Tower Paint and am very impressed but I think I need a flat paint now. My lower body has too many 'raisined areas.' I'm worried about having a glossy white and a flat green.

Why not shoot it with a paint gun, and have the paint mixed in the color you want?
Regarding the flat paint look in the paint section, there's some talk regarding flat paint that's not primer based.
