You know you posted twice about using the FJ60 bracket and I was to stupid to take you advice then. Now that I have build a 86 2f with the FJ60 brackets for A/C it's all perfectly clear. Thank you for you patience.

Would you also install the alt bracket? I would think that would make it a lot easier.

Stand back.I'm not pimping the motor but gives you a good idea of what a FJ60 mount looks like.

No anothe question. Those that have stock A/C how well does it work with 134A in it? I've been hearing about freeze 12 and was wondering how well it performed.
Really old thread and all the photos are missing. Just to clarify. It sounds like an FJ60 with AC front passenger motor mount will drop right in for an FJ55? Did you also use the FJ60 Alternator bracket?

Keep n mind the FJ55 AND FJ60 A/C compressors use a different crank pulley. Third groove, closest to timing cover.

You will have to sort out radiator hose routing to clear belt with either setup.
Thanks Brett. Based on our conversations I am more than likely sticking to what I have. The only real issue I have with my current compressor set up are aesthetics. I did find this mount that doesn't look quite so home brew but not exactly sure how it would work.

This is my setup that Iam doing now on a 2F, only issue so far is the fan hits the pump just an about 1/4 inch going to put a spacer in the fan or change the fan, I thought about the FJ60 setup but did not want to change the harmonic pulley,

Looks nice. For those of us that don't have our brackets memorized.........what is it?

Also, when you say "...the fan hits the pump.."; are you talking about the AC compressor? I assume you aren't talking about the water pump.

Yes the AC pump it hits just a little bit on the back side end of the fan, I may trim the back side of the fan on the edge. Also not sure of maker of bracket, But I do have a different bracket that vintage air sales never used see pic

Thanks for the tips... very helpful, I've never known how to get past the "what year, make and model" question at the parts counter.

who else just replies... "that won't matter" :)
This is something more people should consider when bolting random parts on their toyotas, but they dont...

Another question please. I have the exact same Sanden compressor on my 2F. Unfortunately whoever installed it for the PO over torqued one of the hose fittings and I basically destroyed the female fitting (compressor side) removing the hose. I assume I will need a new compressor. Not the end of the world but I do want to make sure I make the optimal choice.

So with that preamble, how did you select this compressor?

FWIW, yours is rotated 90 degrees from mine. Mine is mounted with the hose fittings on the top. I like your orientation better.

The compressor was the only one with a large V grove pulley, that was at a reasonable price, ( might be others) Iam not sure. I’ve been told 90 degree angle it’s ok, I need to verify.

Your compressor was mounted wrong it should be rotated like the one above. Here's the photo from the VA install instructions. Probably why they struggled with the #10 hose and stripped it.

2 options to fix it. New compressor, they aren't that expensive. Replace the rear part of the case. If you go that route, lmk I may have an old one I can send you.

Thanks for that information! Guessing I will go new but I appreciate the offer and might take you up on it. I'm going back to an OEM radiator and condenser so I will need to change all the hoses anyway. If you have other suggestions for compressors and/or mounting brackets, please share. Also, receiver/dryers that have worked for you. I will need to replace the one that was installed and there's no identifying marks on it anywhere.

My major issue with the existing compressor and bracket is that it just didn't look like they belonged on the engine or at minimum were just thrown on there as an after thought (which they were). Rotating the compressor will help somewhat as it will move the hoses from their awkward position right up against the hood. The bracket is still clearly homebrew though. Would be great to find a better solution.

I agree the VA bracket leaves a lot to be desired. The issue is that early 2F blocks don't have all the mounting provisions like the later ones. If' you're getting Cam to rebuild it, get him to use a late 2F block and you could use the 60 brackets and go with a stock 60 style setup. You would need a later 3 groove harmonic balancer too.

Now you're really testing my OCD. :D Asking me to choose between an AC system that looks OEM or the OEM block......

Edit: This bracket looks totally homemade but I'm no expert:

I'm getting there myself. Did you end up making the your own tabs to mount the condenser?

Are you asking me? I concluded that you just need two nutserts on each side of the vertical radiator core members to bolt the condenser tabs to. That's for an OEM condenser.

Details and pictures are in my build thread but I haven't actually done it yet.
