What do you guys who are running this think about it? Any pics of it installed?

Those of you who have something else what have you done?

I'm looking for install ideas and I need some Compressor reccomendations and how to run the brackets and lines.

My 75 only has two groove pulley. Anybody know of a way to install a compressor without losing the stock look and smog pump?

Pics?

Doesn't the compressor mount on a modified motor mount with the "F" or "2F" engine?

There is factory A/C in the '76 FJ55 but it's not hooked up yet and the engine is swapped out to a 3B diesel with a turbo.

I would install a 3 groove pulley, and use an FJ60 engine mount, and compressor. IIRC, it was the stock setup for 1979 piggies, and the 2 early compressors are NOT worth putting in, as neither have any service parts availible.

Underdash stuff is not too hard to find, make sure you get the evaporator, the A/C specific center louvre thing for the heater box, and the wiring for the setup.

As for the lines and condensor, you should go new, since r12 is very expensive, and r134a needs barrier wall hoses, and you should use a more modern condensor with r134a.

and the stock underdash stuff, with the upgraded underhood stuff, works very well. rebuild the heater box, while you are in there...

wow that is nothing like I thought it would be. Is that bracket the same as what would be on a 60 series?

I'll have to check with my Toyoya Guy and see if that bracket is still avalable.

Anyone have these brackets they want to unload?

you dont need one of those brackets. that one pictured is for FJ55 with A.C only, from mid 75 till the end of 78. the compressor that fits it is obsolete, and I doubt you will find a another compressor to fit it...

I would use the Fj60 motor mount, and an FJ60 compressor... it will be easier.

the early(7/'70-mid 75) compressor bracket will be easier to mount another compressor to, since its got a flat plate mounted to it above where the motormount isolator bolts to it... I made a flat plate to hold a sanden 508 on my OEM A\C install...

I think a pig with factory air has a different lower radiator hose also...it dips down low and comes up like a P-Trap for a sink. I had bought a hose kit for my 55, and the lower hose included prevented me from installing the compressor's belt. I don't know how a 60's compressor mounts up, but maybe the lower radiator hoses are similar?

Marshall, I have taken pix of mine but have not been able to down load them..........will ask my computer literate daughter to help in the Am..........mine is an original from factory?/dealer? AC!...what pix do you need?

Have any pics of that there mount?

here you go...
this is the mount from 7/'70 to about 4/'75... takes the place of the righthand cast motor mount.... the slotted grooves are what the stock compressor mounts to and adjusts belt tension with. the stock early compressor is *like* a slightly smaller version of the york found on the aftermarket fj55 ac setups...

Bump.

Those of you who have stock A/C what do you think about it? I'm going to go with a aftermarket bracket for the compressor and going with a fj60 compresser.

Just wondering how well it cools.

I'll let you know when mine gets hooked up but I've tinted the windows from the rear doors back as dark as was available for security down here (it also helps with the A/C). Do you have your vent and defrost hoses all hooked up? I'm working on those right now and once that is done I'll be looking into the A/C. Mine will use the same compressor as found on some of the '60's. I already have the clutch and have verified that it all works OK on my BJ60.

When fabbing your bracket take into account the center line of all the pulleys. You don't want the belt jumping off.

This is the bracket I'm using.

Those brackets should work since they are prefabbed already. I thought you were going to fab them up.
