Rosen aircraft sunvisor to replace sagging visor?

I think I keep beating this dead horse, but why spend so much money on sun visors that don't really block the sun? If you are considering having to add tint to an expensive sun visor I think that's a head scratcher.

I would just like a new set of OEM sun visors. I think the Camry sun visors fit?

"fix it till you break it"

If you don't like the Rosen concept, that's cool. I like mine, although I think they left room for improvement, a darker shade and a lens that is fitted to the vehicle would be great and should be included in the price. Being able to see stoplights through them is very nice. They feel less claustrophobic to use and have down a lot more often than you would with a regular visor. They also flex and pivot for those times when you are on long stretches of desert highway with the sun coming in from the side.

There are plenty of threads on fitting various OEM visors.
You can buy brand new OEM visors in any color you want as long as it's in grey and spend more than the Rosens. If you can find some in stock somewhere.

LH - 74320-60400-B0 $153.58
RH - 74310-60440-B0 $152.68

I don’t get it either. Does nothing my sunglasses aren’t already doing. When I pull the visor down it’s because I want the sun blocked.

I could see replacing the acrylic with aluminum sheet and painting it all to match the headliner.

I'm not hammering your desire for an upgrade or a modification, we all do it on almost every aspect of our rigs!

I have not found a good OEM replacement thread because they all seem to get sidetracked into the Rosen visors! :)

I can tell you for sure that 2011 Camry OEM does not fit and neither does 1998 Avalon as I have both of those and they have different mounts with the 2011 Camry mounts being snaptastic plastic crap. There's some Lexus visor that kind of fits if I remember correctly, but I have not seen any that are a full exact fit. The ones that do still don't have the extra area near the mirror that the LC one does. The Rosen is missing this coverage area as well.

I like the idea. I have to wear glasses to drive now and don't want to spend the money on prescription sun glasses. I'd like something a little more aesthetically pleasing than what I'm seeing on there site.

Here is what I came up with. I special ordered a 'dark grey' transparent cast acrylic sheet. It is more along the lines of a light welding helmet shade whereas I would describe the Rosen lenses as a not so dark sunglasses shade. I had to order a full 4' x 8' sheet. The color Rosen uses is a custom color that they have manufactured for themselves, the color I used is a special order color that is made in limited quantities so it's not generally stocked at any supplier I could find.

Here's the new lense I made:

I made it significantly wider than the original lense. The origin lense did not fit the truck properly and when driving directly into the sun, you constantly had to slide the thing back and forth. This corrects that issue and it still moves and pivots without interference pretty much as freely as the original lense did. My design is much closer to the OEM visor shape.

Here is the original for comparison:

Now both sides with my new lenses

I also made this little piece that attaches to the mirror stalk and bridges the gap between the visors and the mirror, and also provides a place for my forward facing camera to mount. Yes my windshield is cracked.

I am much happier with these new lenses. They do have a slight color shift to them, they aren't as pure of a 'grey' as the originals were, these cast a slightly green tint to the image when looking directly into the sun, but it is minor and the added shade level and added coverage is worth the slight color shift. The extra width to get full coverage is really good, there will rarely be a time I need to slide them into any position other than the default. There is enough transparency to see a stoplight through the lense which is nice.

Those look good, but man that’s a lot of effort to make $250 visors work
They are more like $300. I agree. This work should have been done by Rosen. The aluminum hardware would cost me more than that to have made, so at least I'm able to customize the lenses to my own liking.

Thanks for sharing your experience and your build photos. I agree that the lenses you machined look fantastic. I've passed your feedback on to our engineering team. We use the same darkened acrylic lens material for the Land Cruiser systems as we use in our aircraft visors, because it's what we have and it's been proven to work well for aircraft, but the point is well taken that we should take another look at these two applications and how they differ. Thank you again for sharing!
It may not have to be one tint or the other in the future...

I've really been enjoying the extra dark shade and the extended coverage. I appreciate the response. From a customer's perspective it seems pretty easy to at least have a SKU for a lense that is custom fitted to the vehicle, even if the arm/hardware is generic for a number of vehicles. I understand the shade being based on the aircraft specs and the mission there is a bit different as a private pilot myself, I know that being able to see traffic through the lense easily (and also we almost always wear sunglasses while flying), I think the original shade is perfect for that kind of setup. In the car, I want more blocking but still be able to see if a stoplight has changed without having to bend down and look under it.

I've got plenty of material to make a few more sets if anyone following this thread would like a copy. After using them for about a month, I wouldn't change anything. Contact me via PM if interested.

So after a bunch of sleuthing I finally figured out who TLC gets their sunvisors from for the ICON 40 series. Turns out its Rosen and they specialize in aircraft sunvisors:
Rosen Sunvisor Systems - Jetstream 31

Sooo since my driver's side is starting to sag...again, I figured I would replace them with coolness. I wanted to find out from those that are pilots, what do you think of the sunvisors? I love the thought of being able to see through the visor regardless of sun angle. The mount may be an issue because I would have to customize something but I can get that done fairly easy now.

thoughts?
Maybe I will wander over to his Hangar and see if I can get a personal discount. Rosen is literally like 3 miles from me. I'm lucky.

Hi everyone, I'm Matt, the new Sales and Marketing Director at Rosen, and I'm leaning hard into updating some of our systems to better fit the automotive market. We created new systems for the Mercedes Sprinter Van and the INEOS Grenadier, and it is high time we made a system to be designed more specifically for the Land Cruiser. This thread has been very enlightening as to the positives and negatives that you have found with our universal system.

In all candidness the earliest adopters started buying our universal aircraft system and putting it in the Land Cruiser. It worked well and we were glad so many of you like them, but we feel it's time to take your feedback and make some Land Cruiser specific updates. We'll also be working to make the upgrades available and backward compatible with current systems that people already own.

Currently on the list of upgrades are:
  • We're making the mount plate size exactly fit the factory Land Cruiser mount so it better covers the opening.
  • We're moving to a locking ball mount design with a shorter post. The mount will come factory set according to the standard for the Land Cruiser that you have, but will be adjustable if you have a different configuration.
  • We're updating the lens size and design to better fit Land Cruisers.
  • We will have a different mount that is designed for 40 Series Land Cruisers, and any other models/custom configurations which need a side mount with perpendicular post orientation.
  • We're testing with darker lens options and blackout top portions of the lens.
I'd love to hear your feedback on anything else you'd like to see and for you to share any other experiences!

These are all great additions. We love the ones in our 80 and would like to put a set in the 200.
