So, since my voltage regulator fried, naturally I decided to rebuild my instrument cluster.

To be fair, my odometer recently got stuck and I’m pretty sure my ammeter is kaput, but I might have to live with the later.I just bought a new one from Toyota Matt. Works good. Instrument cluster…![]()
Will be interested to see if you get your ammeter working…I couldn’t.To be fair, my odometer recently got stuck and I’m pretty sure my ammeter is kaput, but I might have to live with the later.
Truck is dead in the water until my new VR arrives so might as well.
I found a post last week before I went traveling on how to get any movement in the 50 ammeter - basically needed to insert about 18 inches of 16 gage wire between fuse link or something around there. I can post the link when i return if desired. Else the scale is so whacked can hardly see the needle move. Will be interested to see if you get your ammeter working…I couldn’t.

(I got my regulator from cruiserTEQ).
Here’s that thread:I'd be interested in reading that thread. I don't run an ammeter, but I'm just curious. From what you describe, it doesn't sound right.
Hmm…yes?I’m sure you checked your 2 fuses in the plastic case under the hood?
FYI, every new 70 series Cruiser still comes with the same number plate lights, just has a socket instead of 2 bullets.Found the license plate lights from @ToyotaMatt, of course.
We’re due to get some rain tomorrow so I was stressing about getting Norman back in her barn but with a fried VR I couldn’t make the 200 yard trip without cooking my battery or worse. Have an OEM VR coming from vintageTEQ but it’s not looking like it will be here until Thursday so I started looking around for something to tie me over until then and found a VR that fit the bill, plug and all, from AutoZone. Installed and works fine. I’ll swap the new one in when it gets here and throw this in the just in case box.

Was $60, bolted right up and plugged right in.
Good to know, thanks.FYI, every new 70 series Cruiser still comes with the same number plate lights, just has a socket instead of 2 bullets.
Also, unplugging the VR should disable the alternator's charge, allowing you to drive it unhindered until the battery goes flat.
