I got an OEM voltage regulator for my 1983 HJ47 from Ali last year.

Oh yeah they are still available in good Qty. For all check out the below threads

I just bought a new one from Toyota Matt. Works good. Instrument cluster…😂
To be fair, my odometer recently got stuck and I’m pretty sure my ammeter is kaput, but I might have to live with the later.

Truck is dead in the water until my new VR arrives so might as well.

Will be interested to see if you get your ammeter working…I couldn’t.
I found a post last week before I went traveling on how to get any movement in the 50 ammeter - basically needed to insert about 18 inches of 16 gage wire between fuse link or something around there. I can post the link when i return if desired. Else the scale is so whacked can hardly see the needle move.

(I got my regulator from cruiserTEQ).

I'd be interested in reading that thread. I don't run an ammeter, but I'm just curious. From what you describe, it doesn't sound right.

Here’s that thread:

I also am getting my VR from @ToyotaMatt as well as some other goodies while I was in there. Matt’s service is so great.

As for the ammeter, I’m not entirely sure it’s toast now after reading a bunch of threads. It seems the 50amp needle really doesn’t move much unless something catastrophic is happening?

Looking into voltage meters now, not to replace my ammeter but to add as an additional point of information.

I’m sure you checked your 2 fuses in the plastic case under the hood?

Also, it was the instrument cluster or knuckles…

As I wait for the VR (and avoid the knuckles) I started in on the rear license plate holder. My lord what a mess. Shockingly the lights worked.

I believe I can salvage the hoods and holder proper, however, I could use some new light bases and chrome shrouds. I took a cursory look but am wondering if anyone has a line on some good/new/oem versions?

See below. Thanks.

Found the license plate lights from @ToyotaMatt, of course.

We’re due to get some rain tomorrow so I was stressing about getting Norman back in her barn but with a fried VR I couldn’t make the 200 yard trip without cooking my battery or worse. Have an OEM VR coming from vintageTEQ but it’s not looking like it will be here until Thursday so I started looking around for something to tie me over until then and found a VR that fit the bill, plug and all, from AutoZone. Installed and works fine. I’ll swap the new one in when it gets here and throw this in the just in case box.

Was $60, bolted right up and plugged right in.

FYI, every new 70 series Cruiser still comes with the same number plate lights, just has a socket instead of 2 bullets.

Also, unplugging the VR should disable the alternator's charge, allowing you to drive it unhindered until the battery goes flat.

Good to know, thanks.

if un-plugging a Vintage TOYOTA remote type mounted voltage regulator was a good idea ?
then why did TOYOTA incorporate them in all
12V and 24V charging systems all vehicle platforms wide globally 1962-1990 era circa

- i have never seen a 70 Series of any type use the silver pewter clam shell light shade covers , this is because the older 70 series tag lamps that are visually similar to a late modle 40 series have no provisions to mount them ......

oh boy ?

the urban legend types .....
