Merry Christmas indeed!
Yeah brother. Just did a decent round trip to my in-laws house and had so much fun. Being legal seems to make my rig run better, or maybe the carb adjustment helped… who can say?

Refurbished my grill emblem.
It was broken at the T-OYOTA.
Epoxied a couple metal model braces where the two outside posts (all were broken off) used a couple small neodymium magnets to hold it on because I didn’t feel like dropping the grill and putting too much more work into this.
The inside paint is Testors Ivory White enamel.

You got that Ian

Appreciatecha.
Encouragement feels nice.

I got in a bit of hot water with the wife because instead of going to the 4th dinner in a row, I hung back and started hacking into this. So I had to step away and be a good boy. I’ve got one other repair on this side and two easier ones on the other side then replace the rain gutter and I’m done! Easy peasy. I’ll admit I started peaking at soft tops though to “get me by”…

Oh, and the ambi door bottoms but I can live with those for awhile.

Once these time suck holidays end I’ll really be able to dive back into my favorite time suck that is Norman.

Looks great! I need to do the same.

Giving me Anxiety!! You’ll pull it off though! Looking forward to this.
Well, I pulled it out certainly 😉.
A bit of concern is the backing plate for the upper ambi hinge, it’s pretty toasty. Thought is to either put a red tube on a can rust converter and shoot it in there from either end or dump some Ospho in there and slosh it around.
Tried to get a pic:

Yeah that’s ugly for sure…any way to cut it out?

Perhaps down the road I will. For now I want to get this top buttoned up and get it back on. If I had a donor chunk I might, but I feel like within that hole lies many many rabbits.

Serious TECH Talk here…

I installed 4* shims in the front to hopefully correct my “oh sh!t! What is my steering going to decide to do?” driving experience and what do you know, I don’t feel like I need to be on the spectrum to drive this girl anymore. What a pleasant upgrade. While in there I found an engine mount with a few mm of play so I wrenched that puppy down and I might have found the illusive “clunk” I couldn’t identify when turning at slow speed.

Actively dragging my feet to do a knuckle job, have all the parts, just don’t relish the thought as I’ve BTDT.

I’ve got two more leaf spring pins to do, one is blocked by the exhaust and I know I’ll just be snapping bolts and am not ready for the muffler shop just yet. The other is on the PS inboard front and seems to be welded on by rust. I banged and banged with my BFH and Punch and whatever else and that puppy is seized. Unsure how to proceed…
I guess I’ll bust out the torch tomorrow but I also got a fancy new timing light and I want to play with that. Plus, the leaches (kids) are on winter break so I should probably be a father or something…

It would be alot less mess to get a carbide tipped sawsall blade for your saw and cut through the pin on either side of the spring.
True, however, I think that face is what is “welded” to the hanger. I’m sure the pin is married to whatever is left of the bushing as well.

I was too eager to see what the shims did to the ride to futz with it much more just then.

Great to hear about the shim results!

I got 4 degree to, then though ‘f$ck, is that too much castor?” Now I can calm my rump down.

It’s a game changer.
Certainly falls into the category of “I should have done this sooner… a lot sooner”

Getting there with the hardtop repairs.
This piece took a couple days of tweaking and walking away and tweaking some more.
Needs a hair more tweaking yet…
