In Need Of an air cleaner for the early 2F valve cover (part 17700-61021 I believe).

I have one from a later 2F valve cover (part 17700-61023) in pretty good condition I’d love to trade with someone.

I want Weber gone. Have almost everything I need to swap, it’s just this stupid air cleaner…

We should have one for you if still needed.

Dobinson’s leaf springs
In further news…

I still am a very disappointed Dobinson’s buyer.
These springs are less than a year old. This rig has no hard top on and the gas can is full. I haven’t driven the truck in two weeks and this is what I came home to. Notice how flat the left spring is as well as how even the tires are from the bottom of the picture frame.

And yes, I’ve flexed these. Took her to SAS.
Had a cooler, some camping equipment and some tools and they were flat.

What’s even better is that D’sons won’t stand by this crap…

I believe @OlYellr tried to file a warranty claim to no avail? Care to chime in Bryan?

Grrrr

Yeah - I filed a claim online AND I called them after. Picts sent etc. Nothing. Getting a claimed approved is like trying to flush an outhouse. Just ain't gonna happen. They tell you 2 years on their stuff - I have 4 months on mine and no longer return my call or emails (and I am not calling them everyday or some annoying thing like that). Just freaking be accountable and do what you say you are going to do. That is all. Don't just ghost your customers.

I didn't have the gangsta' lean like you do - I didn't have the normal cruiser lean either. Mine was off like an inch, need to find the photos I took and (well I looked and found it) - I am not nerdy like you are Ian, but mine was about half of your lean.

I have the IMS shocks too - they seem to be fine. But as I said on my thread. Never again, especially when you shell out that much cabbage for a suspension.

I am going to do some hack job on them to keep me going until I know how and what to replace these with.

We should meetup to gripe and hoist beers. Maybe crush a Fosters or something.

Sad. You never how people do stuff - that's why most places don't guarantee electrical stuff - too easy to let out the magic smoke and then claim it was defective. In this case its like spring steel, mostly indestructible unless you threw it in a bonfire.
In any case thank you for reporting here. I was seriously considering them as I really need to do something with my OEM 72 springs, but I'll be looking elsewhere.

Yes I understand nothing man made is perfect. For me steel (spring) before 1930's can be questionable - craftsman vs, yahoos. The difference is quality manufacturing stands behind their product, not behind the door hiding from responsibility for a obvious defect product.

Exactly- I’d be a big fan with some type of willingness.

Be that as it may with their actions (or lack of)… I am not criticizing Dobinsons, I am only describing Dobinsons to you all

And what I have learned too.. I bought from small vendors here on mud thinking I was doing a good thing spreading my money to others. I got not help from them and would be better with bigger outfits like Cruiser Outfit who has bigger volumes and not as easily ignored.

Yea you pays your money and takes your chances. I bought five 12V switches from the local Autozoneout. Got home and went to install them. One fell apart in my hand - no electrical part warranty. Now anything I buy there like that I open the package and inspect it before I buy it. Now I buy switches on Amoron or Ebay at a much cheaper rate and I don't have to drive 50 miles to get them

This.

The vendor I went through is not really a vendor per se and the impression I got was that I was more of an annoyance to them. The advice I received wasn’t thought out and the responsibility buck was firmly passed.

My biggest mistake wasn’t buying Dobinson’s, it was not buying from someone like Cruiser Outfit.
My second biggest mistake was buying Dobinson’s.

It just really gargles my goat that they give nary a **** about the little guys. That wasted thousand bucks hurt.

But because I don’t want this post to end on a negative note, there are developments of another sort afoot.

Alright, back to the carburetion situation …

Still haven’t landed on the correct air cleaner yet although fingers crossed Georg can help.
With @mattressking Nate’s guidance and @OlYellr Bryan’s generosity I feel pretty well set to go when I get the Air Cleaner sorted.

However, base studs… best I can figure is they are 8mm x 50mm? This right? Being a transition year (4/80) my truck can throw curve balls.

Can anyone point me to a set of carb base studs?

Thanks.
Ian

Carburetor base studs

Buy 4 from Toyota. Carb base hardware is the same from 75-90
This is why this forum is so great.
And you Nate, thanks. Jimmy gave me that air cleaner, well, we traded stuff. Of course it was for the later valve cover you taught me about, but I’m one step closer.

Also, I did a fairly exhaustive search and couldn’t get this exact answer. Hopefully someone in the future will benefit.

Don't forget you'll need the later valvecover studs if you're going from tall to short valve cover.

Yes in order to run 75-80 and/or 80-87 valve cover/air cleaner there is some variation.....

75-80
1. Tall Valve Cover (press in oil cap/no 2F embossing, 79/80 has screw in cap with front embossed 2F but still a tall V/C
2. Tall carb due to EGR
a. 79-80 Carb has a thick insulator but no egr tube
3. Requires 75-80 air cleaner to align with valve cover mounting holes.

80-87
1. Short valve cover (embossed 2F logo on side) screw in cap
2. Shorter carb due to thinner insulator/egr inlet moved to manifold
3. Air cleaner mounting is changed to fit only 80-87 2F short valve cover

You can run a ROW(Non-USA) carb (or 80-87 USA carb) on a 75-80 but you need a spacer like the one CityRacer sells and adapt the choke cable.

Awesome information.

My valve cover has the 2F embossed on the end with screw in oil cap, so 79/80 tall.

I have the spacer/heat shield.

I got the City Racer carb with the spacer and idle solenoid as well as the float you recommended.

At this point, I’m wondering if getting my hands on a short valve cover is going to be easier than tracking down the correct air cleaner.

But surely someone has adapted the later cleaner to the earlier cover? 🤔
