Good idea looks sharp. I've put the other ones on my 60 and haven't had good luck. On the steering box side one of the holes has already torn out. Its a bummer.
Good point here, I know each of the parts don’t move much, but collectively there is probably moved more than I realize, if that makes sense, I recently noticed the top of the right front shock rubbed the fender, I’ve done some flexing on a few trips but didn’t realize there was that much travel.

My issue with the rubber OEM fender splash is the speeds, it’s so much stress on those when I’m doing 75mph. The other thing is if you look up fender washers all of the modern stuff has sharp edges which eats through. I wish they had miniature cup washers, where no hard edge.

My next experiment if the hard sheet doesn’t hold is structured silicone 1/16”. Found some of Amazon. This stuff won’t rip

The antenna bracket looks great, what are you running for comms?
That is a store bought Drive Reach with the OTR antenna. Not ready to start installing comms like a unit under the dash. A handheld works good for me. Usually when I’m traveling I spend 75% alone cause I generally don’t like going at others pace.

B Pillar Plastic Trim Fix FJ62
Self explanatory but made some trim pieces. Had some spare black plastic left after the splash apron were done. This took better part of a day to start from scratch. Seems easy but every edge was a different line…

Fixed my oil pressure gauge. Shorted connector at sender. 25ohms at poles on 12 volt, book talks about 55ohms at 24volt if I recall. Cross checked the resistance with temp gauge, both work fine dead on 25ohm. New connector, pulled combination meter and fixed. This entry is for future me for sanity sake….

Grill
Decided to strip off the black paint from side vents at engine. The old chrome covered up by TLC in 2010 looks great. Chrome plated plastic is very tough until it’s not. If you consider cleaning up any chrome plastic gently get it down to the metal, once you determine it’s not bubbled up you can get aggressive with polish.

Here I’ve used 400 grit foam block wet sand then back out to 600, 800, then Chemical Guys 36, 38 and final was a mirror glaze. But you can use Brasso and be done. Inset greyish looks to be the same texture and color as inset of grill, may go obsess over that next. Mix up a batch and redo all that. Used black with an economy bag of oil paint brushes. A jar of those in the garage does wonders for cleaning and paint touchup

Door handles FJ62
A lot of little projects I had on the list are getting done. Cheap Taiwan handles on Amazon sacrificed them to steal the gaskets, perfect match and material. The fit of the knockoffs was perfect though I was curious, handy thing is the put a pushrod mount to either side of handle so nothing specific to left or right.

Cedar wood left over from lining the tuffy as well.

Lastly my 12 volt D pillar fan mod is in place and works great. Pull fresh air from outside, porous filter on intake. With the window cracked you can feel a draw. At .1 amps can leave running while parked in the sun to keep cooler outside air pumping, or for me since I’ve slept in it a lot need a fan. Sounds like a low hum computer fan which breaks the tension of night time

Disk Front Brakes FJ62
Well did some brake work because I have a caliper seize from rust. So started over. Braided lines, removed dust cover, zinced the dust cover and the spacer that I made. The Aisin locks were in good shape and cleaned up well.

Nice D pillar fan mod! I was thinking of mounting a pair of those on the interior of the D pillars, but your install is way cleaner!

I would have them pushing air out instead, to keep the diesel fumes out at low speed.

Really dig the d pillar fan. I assume you only did one side? And is it pushing or pulling?
Yes sir, I could add to other side, maybe a push pull, it was so easy to fit that in. Its not like instant air but you can feel once the mass of air gets going itll take moisture out some. Best part is I sleep with a fan...

Cool thing is get 2 small fans that are shallow, drop right in no fab work, if you dont like it pull them, no damage or permanent. I ran power down the harness on left side of cabin into the relay box with switches at my tuffy

This week I had a leaky steering pump hose. Strange thing id wipe everything down with alcohol so I could see what was going on. Never found it but the strange leaky pattern told me the high pressure side, if that makes sense. I dropped in a hydraulic hose and a 90 and it did NOT like that hose and 90 degrees turn. Pulled everything out and went in with a braided stainless Teflon. Smooth as butter now. Low pressure side was a breeze, cleaned up the clamps and looks new. Note to self, a -6an 37 degree and a JIC 37 are the same thing. Not to be mistaken with a JIC 45 degree flare. All better now. In the closeup of the flare you can tell where the flare meets. Leak free now

For fumes and rough smells I keep a commercial grade ionizing machine in the garage. Periodically I’ll leave the windows down and let it run overnight. Kills the slept in smells
