Cleaning up my old brakes fresh paint ordered some new parts. Everything‘s still available, however, it’s not cost-effective to rebuild yourself.

To future me. I decided the use string theory to set my toe-in. Was an informative process. In the notes the top left top down drawing shows my drivers was toed in and passenger side toed out. Spin of the left rod end and a few rotations of the rod and it’s close. A little off but at an 1/8. Dial it in a little over holidays. After repack of bearings and brakes it magically wasnt dialed in. Didn’t change anything. Tells me it was off before I did them. So afterwards I literally took everything off down to spindle to check bearings and preload. I have a reference point and mine is spot on. Tupperware on seat to take home to moms for holiday.

Edit: after I screwed with the string for a few days I could not get tow to match well enough to set with the relay. So I knew I was going to alignment and my local Toyota suspension guy said it was a futile attempt. You bolt everything on and set tow. I was off but close. From my understanding best I can do is count threads and adjust rod. I can see all the small things to do in my head but just couldn’t get it close enough to count. King pin and and shims were spot on.

I didn’t put much thought into replacing all my fuel lines with nylon braided stainless lines. Today while finishing up the alignment I was doing a pre trip when I noticed my main feed had had broken loose from a tie wrap. The braid stopped a full on fire. The inside rubber was holding its shape and didn’t fail. That stretch of exhaust runs 400+ I’m grateful nothing happened, the trans tunnel generates a lot of heat. I think the tie failed. All fixed

Ill explain more later about leaf springs and treatment, paint, bluing or man up and bare bones. There is nothing appropriate, safe or sustainable between springs. The OME 2021 purchase the painting or whatever process they used failed hard. I am stripped down the front pack and prepping for cold bluing between. Will see. Eaton knows best.

This week I had a leaky steering pump hose. Strange thing id wipe everything down with alcohol so I could see what was going on. Never found it but the strange leaky pattern told me the high pressure side, if that makes sense. I dropped in a hydraulic hose and a 90 and it did NOT like that hose and 90 degrees turn. Pulled everything out and went in with a braided stainless Teflon. Smooth as butter now. Low pressure side was a breeze, cleaned up the clamps and looks new. Note to self, a -6an 37 degree and a JIC 37 are the same thing. Not to be mistaken with a JIC 45 degree flare. All better now. In the closeup of the flare you can tell where the flare meets. Leak free now

Looks great. Where’d you source those 90s? Do they have 6an on the other end? I’ve got a leaky high pressure flare on mine and am having a hard time finding the 16x1.5 inverted flare and 16x1.5 o ring 90s to convert it to a 6an hose.

Sorry for slow reply. The “sweeping 90” was fabbed by the shop. I really can’t tell if it was fabbed as JIC or 6an. I had a hydraulic hose same size and a harder 90 degree. The pump did not like it at all. Struggle to meet the demand. Guess it was too sharp. I found some welds at the base of the 6an. (Folks that did the resto in 2012)

No problem at all, and thanks for the details. Good to know that these are almost all custom. That's helpful. I ordered one of these ICT Billet hoses with the two fittings so will see how it goes. Cheers.

I ended up going to the hydraulic hose place, they are just an industrial hose fitting place in town. I put my Toyota parts on the counter. He explained I don’t have anything too unique. They could get most of the fittings. Worth a shot

The new bushings helped some but the clunk is still there. Going to replace sway bar bushes now. FYI spent several calls with open case at ARB. Really nice guys but refuse to acknowledge the issue, was like asking Siri something and he goes, hhmm. The sleeve over the bolts on the spring keepers helped as well. Buy a 4’ steel tube in melding section at Tractor Supply

OME Springs
This entry is to share my experience with the OME springs. I tightened up the spring keepers and lubed my isolator noisy pads at the tips of each. Each time I did something I drove it between. Every time I did an approved procedure for maintenance the noise and tone changed from a clunk to a high pitched squeak. So In the garage last night I clamped my springs with 300lbs clamps to simulate a bigger load and bind. Heavy clamp was squeak and not under load was clunk. I used a stethoscope to zero in on the origin. Turns out the harmonic is same spot on all 4 rear uninsulated 2nd from top. Took packs apart to verify the heavy rub. Seen here is after wash and some chopped up mudflap material to isolate. 1000% noise gone. Permanent fix is poly sleeves to slip over that one leaf. Damnit yall #OME #SpringClunk #damnitARB

Thank you!
This is such a good write up, I am considering putting on my long johns and correcting the suspension. I hate the clunk noise!

That’s a tough one, that cold may not be worth it. Mine has a 2 inch lift, caster may be different so cruiser to cruiser may not work exact compare. But quickest way is to put a jack under one side at a time, that will get the springs talking. While you go up and down listen close where. If you have a way to see the wear spot between leafs wash that spot good. That alone calmed it down. But if you can let the diff hang and untorque ubolts knock the springs around, line them up, go back about 75% of final torque, let it back down and settle. Then torque them down. The little rubber/fiber pad I’m leaving in place for awhile to see how it behaves

Hi, I’m really tired of all customer service centers doing nothing. It’s not just them but for the price they charge it’s pretty pitiful.

I’ve thought that numerous times this week. It’s almost like they are saying well if you don’t like it quit buying from us. 3 separate calls. I asked why there is no solution, no answer. I asked is the an SB on the stress cracked clips, send a picture no answer. Asked if they changed the dimensions of the bushes because they are now shorter and thicker, no answer, I pushed on this one and he finally said that’s way above my pay grade. Asked what is the color code for the gray graphite paint for touchup, told just buy a can of Rustoleum black, but it’s gray sir…black works fine.

Truly a bazar conversation.

Leather works as well. I’ll figure it out eventually but the leather looks cool4 of the 8 spring clips have stress cracks in the 90 degree turn upwards, zoom in you can see it on this side

Wow! That is looking good! You have a lot more time and patience than I do. Is that Cayenne pepper sprinkled on the top? Is that a Texas thing? LOL! Please keep the photos coming!

Well I probably could have used cayenne pepper. I’d used some colored filler to use as a guide coat while leveling. Last thing I did was dust it with a black primer so I could see where I needed to back off on sanding. If you can gut all your plumbing on your tank and the work you’ve done so far the dash is easy. I elected to do all the labor and took my spare vinyl and drop at shop. They will put a few nice seams on the lip and sides. You’re a garage guy like me Will, totally worth putting on the bench with some good 80s music on and get after it. Good stuff

Thanks for the update! Please post photos of the upholstery and seams when you get it back. Sounds like a good opportunity!
