Met up with a friend who also enjoys cruising the topless 40. We checked out the Mining Museum and some other downtown Phoenix memorials near the capitol building.

Went back to the mining museum and watched a demonstration of the equipment. It was pretty cool. I only got one good pic though. The stamp mill was not as loud as I thought it would be either.

Once I got home, it was oil pan gasket replacement time. Got it tore apart and all clean. Painted the oil pan. Reassemble first thing in the morning.

So far so good with the fixes. Still have brake lights and no spots on the floor. :hillbilly:

Cleaned and painted the crank handle and jack for the next 40.

Was the factory color of the engine hand crank black? Since it is mounted on the driver's side fender well, I was toying with the idea of painting it "Farm Equipment Yellow" to match the jack rods that are mounted on the passenger side fender well.

I believe the crank was black from the factory. It never came in the US spec 40s though. It came in the 55 as a way to lower the rear tire.

I don't plan to keep the crank in either 40. I just want one for novelty.

It was also in the FJ45LP-B. Clips are there for rod behind the driver's side seat along with rods for the jack handle. The early ones in the US did not have a spate tire winch so must have been for starting the engine.. Not sure about the sixties 45LV. The FJ55 stored under the rear seat. Believe the early rod was 850 MM later were 1005 MM going off memory.

Don't mean to highjack this thread, but here is a photo that I snagged elsewhere on MUD which shows a nice tidy mounting on what appears to be the driver's-side fender.

Early Cruisers came with the holes for the crank handle clips but did not have the clips and the holes were filled with small screws. It would be like pictured above.

That is a picture of a US 1960 FJ25L I use to own. Have 1961 and 1962 production FJ40s with the the screws. Difference between the FJ25 and FJ40 the lower bracket on the FJ25 bolted to the side of the tub not the floor.

I am all registered and insured. Will get a few more items cleaned up tomorrow and go for a cruise.

Only recent visual progress is I installed the blower duct. It's one more part on the truck and off the work bench.

Did the 74 have one piece duct without sleeve? My 72 needs the extra sleeve to connect to the heater unit.
