You have a vacuum shifted t-case? For the love of God, why?
I know, I know... but I liked the idea of not having levers sticking up through my tunnel. Kinda cool to have a 50 year old dash activated 4WD. Trying to keep some original touches along with some modern items.

All else fails I can run vacuum hoses to the dash like a DUI tester and I can suck on one hose to engage 4WD and then the other to engage 2WD. 🤪🤪🤪🤪🤪

Tore into the FD actuator. Everything looks decent. My FD cable looks to be too short to fully activate the diverter valve At open and close positions.

Im looking for one if you have one. 😊 I bought the parts long ago to make it a manual lever but its at the other house and I kinda like this design.

I think I'm going to bypass this mechanical 4WD actuation and just put a 12v 3-way solenoid air switch to switch vacuum between 4WD on and 4WD off. Amazon stuff shows up tomorrow for me to test it.

The frugal side of me spent 4 hours last night bent into the hood trying to rig an extension on my existing cable. Sometimes I'm not sure why I do thus but it didn't cost anything but time (and frustration). I need to know when to give up. 🤪

You also need to put a price on your time if it's something you don't enjoy.

Yep if my time had appropriate value, I'm driving a million dollar pig!

Pretty sure if we factored in our time we’d all be over the $5,000 limit.

Do those work with vacuum?
I'm not sure. That why I want to test one. Some specifically say not for vacuum and then some don't say anything.

I figure for $20, I can experiment a little.

Most of the small 3 way solenoid valves I’ve seen are poppet style or pilot style.

I believe you’ll need direct acting or semi-direct acting solenoid valves for vacuum unless you can get the pressure differential across the valve above the minimum required at all times.

Good luck!

I ended up double checking what I ordered and it won't work (it was 24VDC and I'm not sure how I missed that). Anyway, I'm not sure these will work. I think I need a 3-port switch and these have just two. On the FJ55 transfer it needs vacuum to engage both states (2WD and 4WD). I may be over thinking this but if the transfer case was spring-loaded to return to the 2WD position then I think these could work, but it's not.

I think this is more what's required. 1/4'' 3-Way 12V DC Electric Solenoid Valve

Busy time today. I received my seats back from the upholsterer so the morning chore was to install them.

Then I went to work on the Classic Auto Air system. Fabricated brackets for the firewall mount.

Then installed the condensor.

And cut a hole in the dash for the control. Not sure what to do with theses wires though. Everything else seems finished out and labeled so must be an anomal. I'll have to contact them Monday.

Today I was able to get the heater side of the unit all together, install vents and run duct work.

Refrigerant lines will have to wait for another time. I ordered a Crimp tool and I'll need to source a compressor adapter block.
