Cool. Yeah, I'm no stranger to paint correction, and as far as wet sanding, I've always done it by hand. But that was always on small or uneven areas. This time I'll be doing large flat panels. I've got foam durablocks, but wasn't sure if there was a special type of wet paper made for foam. From what I can find, it seems most people just kinda loosely wrap the paper around the foam and go to it.

Am I right?

From the LAST person on Earth you'd want to emulate...yes.

Looking great. Trust me, that is a tough color to get a good picture of. Make certain that you cover all the parts with enough paint. Coverage really makes a difference in shade. I had all my parts painted separately and a few had to be resprayed due to color variation. Everything on the 40 shows!

Got the body flipped.

Did a sand with some 220, then did my final glaze coat.

Then followed up with 3 coats of high build 2k primer.

I still have a few low areas, so another 2-3 coats of primer followed by a wet sand ought to make this baby flat.

Can someone chime in here a second?

I know it's not OE, but when I start assembling body panels, I'd like to cut some thin pieces of rubber to place in between panels that are sandwiched together (bib, fenders, aprons, hinges, etc.) to keep things from rubbing together and subsequently rubbing off paint, finishes, etc.

The PO had done it on my 1968 I used to own, and I always liked it. Anyone know of a good material to use? I was thinking heavy mil rubber that you'd find in a shower pan liner, but I thought that may be a little too thick.

If I may butt in...

I have seen many 40 series vehicles with plastic welting between those panels. (Like a VW Beetle) Some even looked as if it may have been from the factory. The FJ75 has it ex factory between the fender and skirt. That is definitely factory original. I needed to replace that on the 75 and managed to find some quite easily and bought 15m of it to do both vehicles - cheap.

During December, on a wrecked 45 I found little rubber inserts attached to old hood skirts where they bolt onto the tub. These had little wire clips on to hold them in place and clearly factory fitted. I had never seen those before. Recovered them to use on the 45 when I get to that point.

Great thread! Keep sharing the great work. Just bought a 76 fj40 and this is just the kind of stuff I'll be doing as well.

Paint!

(Still looks yellow in the pics)

Yes

What you are seeing is 4 coats base and 3 coats of clear.

Anyone know where I can find factory stickers/decals?

I need them for just about everything. Heaters, intakes, electronic modules, engine bay, etc.

I thought I remember somebody selling them around here.

Ive seen them on SOR. @SMG can make copies if you send him a pic of the original.

Does he have a thread going somewhere?
