Man. What a clean rig.

Funny you say that today of all days.

I’d not even peeked under this body because I knew what I was going to find.

I’ve been down this road with many a Cruiser.

I like to get as much of this stuff off scraping, blowing and picking instead of with water. Water will be last.

Interesting course of action on the undercarriage clean up. I usually prefer to not clean it so that crap falls in my eyes and mouth every time I crawl under it to do something….

Turns out there was 35# of dirt in the frame. (Bathroom scale under there)

Next, the nasty part. Air hose and vacuum.

The goal here is to get a bare frame I can put a nice thick coat of fluid film in

Then, finally, pressure wash.

Once it dries I’ll hit it all with rust converter then more Fluid Film.

Since it was still wet I moved on to the suspension.

I had a brand new OME suspension that @Indygbd had installed on the 72 FST. I think it was some kind of ultra heavy setup as it literally would not move if you jumped on it.

I’m firmly in the Dobinsons camp these days but they are out of 40 springs right now so I decided to try to make these things more manageable.

In the rear I look out the 3rd leaf from the top and the overload spring.

In the front I took out the third and forth from the top and added in some 4* shims

Weight on, it looks like I got about 3” lift in the rear. That will settle in some. Hope it rides good.

Tomorrow I’ll get the front done and see how I like it.

Found one 22 magnum and two 30-06 shells. One for night. Two for day.

Funny, I too found a couple .30-06 rounds in my recently-acquired 40, but mine were unfired.

Got the fronts on and all the cotter pins done.

Sprayed the underside with rust converter. I bought a gallon and an airless sprayer for it and it’s perfect for big jobs like this

The clean frame ended up looking like this.

Next I went back to front with new 90wt. It looked good except the rear axle but it got changed anyway

Underside looks WAY better. I love using rust converter because you don’t really have to worry about overspray, unlike paint. Also to me it does not cover up imperfections like a quickie paint job.

When I’m finished turning wrenches I’ll add a fine layer of Fluid Film which will further soak into the old weathered steel and lock out and stop future rust

And finally, what I wanted to see after taking out all those leafs per spring pack….sitting nice. Once I add the 4Plus tire carrier and the spare it should sit dead level

The big tail light trucks 75-up won’t work for the second bumperette like the early trucks so one.

You know, that’s actually the stock location on a 75 hanging under there like that.

If I eventually put a Sniper on it I’ll have to add some exhaust items and will change it. Until then it’s staying as is.

Found 5 rounds of .223 in mine, but it still has the rifle mounts the PO installed. True ranch truck (same year/color as @wngrog presents here.)

The visible frame got the POR treatment and the inside of the frame got Rustoleum.

Then I changed the last of the oils

Then I pressure washed the engine bay as best I could then stripped off all the things headed to powder

Now I clean and mend some wiring
