Well…. looks like Matt has been struck with Covid according to his website. Get better Matt I had it and it SUCKED. Another member of the pigsty, Macdaddyrabbit sent me what we think I need for the accelerator linkage.

In the meantime I got my air cleaner apart thanks to the advice of Macdaddyrabbit and war eagle. I just used channel locks and squeezed the heck outa the screws while turning them then used my JIS screw drivers to get them all the way out. I did soak them for a couple days, no heat.

It’s off to the powder coater tomorrow. I think I remember seeing these parts new on one of the vendors site. Anyone remember seeing them? If I’m gonna get this rusty thing all purdy might as well put some new jewelry on it.

I bought rubber grommets from McMaster Carr that fit those metal tabs perfectly. I would send you some but I'm not in the country until late May. I can probably find a reference though if you need it.

PC 'em is a suggestion... did my set in silver..

@WarDamnEagle if you can find the reference that would be great. I’ve never ordered from McMaster Carr before. I’ve got time. PC is a month out….

@WarDamnEagle @gonzopancho @PabloCruise do you guys have pictures/descriptions of the rear attachment seat bracket fixes in your builds? I have close to zero welding/metal working skill but may give it a go this time around if I can wrap my brain around it. 🍻
What did I do?
You need pics of the rear seat attachment brackets?
Sorry I did not see you tagged me on this...

@scrapdaddy I did place the carb (racer 65 carb) on the studs and was able to attach all the linkage but everything was so stressed and bent out of shape none of the linkage would move. All of the ball joints were off kilter. I forced the linkage piece onto the outside studs after putting the carb on snugged it down and everything was essentially locked up. I’m absolutely guessing here but it seems the piece with the arrow pointing at it below is too long. Unless like I said my intake manifold needs to be moved towards the front of the engine.

I don't think you are going to be able to change the intake's location on the engine...

At best an SME has there truck nearby or the innate 411 to help.. I don't have enuf experience, but I will got to my trucks tomorrow morn if this isn't answered tonite.. but I agree with Scrapdaddy don't modify anything .....
SME?

Everyone, as usual the mud community have again proven to be rock stars. Thank you for all the parts offers! Matt and I are working to figure out what the heck is going on. Multiple theories and I’m positive we’ll find a solution. Marge ain’t my daily driver so not pressed for time. My only hope (other than getting this right) is that this will help out another 55 owner if they go down the path of going back to an OEM carb and linkage setup.

However while I’m waiting on a resolution 😂. Heater box rebuilds…I’m debating having the metal portion of the box media blasted and powder coated. Have folks taken this apart before? It looks like the only way to do it would be to bend the metal back to get the rod out. I’ve searched 55 heater box rebuild and multiple other titles and can’t find an answer. Worried about breaking the metal if I stress it enough to get the rod out.

Glad to hear Matt is on the scene. I was waiting for him to show up.

He’s not…out with Covid. Waiting for him to heal up. Macdaddyrabbit package with the linkage that hopefully fits will be here Monday.

Correct! @WarDamnEagle. @PabloCruise I read through your posts on AC and decided I may as well just pull the trigger on an entire setup rather than try and piece one together. I plan on driving up to 4 hours maybe a bit longer to camp starting in a couple months and AC is going to make it much more comfortable when the temps start to rise. I think I have officially exceeded the 5K build limit….
