How fast have you taken your fj40 up to?

Pretty sure a stock cruiser could do 100 even with stock tires.

Sure, probably could. I could do that, on the salt flats with no cross-wind. around here it'd be effin crazy. I got a 'Cruiser 'cause it can go slow. I put a load of money in it to go slower. How 'bout a thread..."How slow can your 'Cruiser go?" I put mine in low-low first and get out and leisurely walk around it while it idles up a hill. If I wanted something fast, I'd drive something else.

Totally agree.

Cool. Could I possibly get you to post....

"I totally agree with Pighead".

?

I need a new sigline...and respect your opinion.

Taken while testing the limits after a carb rebuild.
Rebuild took place a few weeks back but finally got a chance to drive it on the highway.
75+ At 152 (2).webp
75+ At 152 (2).webp

+/-95mph w/ 350

Once I did 85 on spedo +10% for oversized tires (per testing mile markers on highway). To be honest that was where I lifted up my foot because it was still climbing quickly and that was pleanty quick and it was quite floaty. I was actually keeping up with traffic.

Went 75mph several times this past summer (1F with 3spd). Now my 1F is RIP

or maybe just wishfull thinking... or mis-corrected spedos

Well in my defense, the buddy in the Firebird said we were going that fast. I don't recall looking at the speedo, I might have had my eyes closed....

Had'er pegged on an open uphill stretch. A guy in a Ford Exploder tailgated for about 15 miles, I was doing posted speed of 70mph leaning on the shoulder and still wouldnt pass. So I laid the ears back to about 6500 rpm and wala the Exploder had vanashed. Panic struck, backed her down to 70 again, but my adrenalin didnt stop for miles.

SMC & t700 with 33's on mine with 4" lift & extended shackles. I usually sit on 90kph on the open road but thought I'd to push it a little bit more one day. I got up to 148kph on the GPS & was hanging on like buggary so I decided to lift the foot & settle back at 90kph again. I get bad milage out of it as it is & that short burst lost me some distance I sure.

Not sure if this thread should really be revived, but I think its fair enough for me to chip in here....

Surprisingly stable up to 100 mph out here with windshield down:
YouTube - ‪Desert devil Vs SK‬‏

Could not resist the challenge from friends in a 3.0 V6 Mitsubishi starting off from 80kmph (50mph)....Running a 1UZ V8 motor, H150F gears, FJ70 axles, ring and pinion. 31 inch tires on 10 inch wheels and stiff Bilstein shocks running stock leafs out front and FJ70 front springs at back...and yes 4 wheel disc brakes too with an upgraded booster (for whatever that is worth :)).

I know an FJ40 was not really meant for this, but this fall we plan to pretend its 1973 and take on some tricky desert sands. Wish us luck, cause we're gonna need it :) !

ive had mine up to 90 before it is stock besides shakle reversal and 33s it wasnt that bad i was going thru the steep hills of branson 65 up them 90 down but it was 3200 rpms i might have had more to go but not really...

I'm soa with a SBC 350

when i had 35's and stock axles i had it up to 95 for a short stretch..

Last time I went to SnT.. I drove the rig there from SF bay area to Slo (SnT) Rig is now on 40" MTR's and 1ton axles.. I Averaged 82 mph used a gps to get the mileage.. that trip i took it up to 97 mph for a short stretch..

I routinely fly my plane at 120 but there is no way I would do half that in the cruiser. There's too much to hit down low. We have an interstate with 70 mph speed limits through town so I have to plan my route to avoid it.
