No way. Keep looking for an honest US spec truck.
Classifieds here are a great source, post up anymore questions you may have.

I would rather have an original 40 with rust for that price.
The placement of the lights on the bumper tells you all you need to know about the rest of the truck.
Enjoy the hunt!

If you asking if it could goes back to stock probably means you are not familiar with the 40 series. If your planning on paying someone to do the work I would read thru the $250K Land Cruiser thread. Someone posted hearing a vendor spending 1000 hours to get a new aftermarket tub ready to paint and then painted. The pictures you show so not show any floors. Guessing any vendor will tell you you need a new tub once it's uncovered. The placement of the transmission and transfer case shifter makes the top cover from a 60 series not a 40 series. I also do not see ha hand brake lever. The 8/80+ 45/47 series had a hand brake on the back of the transfer case. Rest of the 40 series 8/80+ it was on the hand brake was on the back axle. My guess is it still has the 79 rear axle and a 60 series split transfer case. So doesn't have any hand brake. All I see here here is $$$ throw at and still not want you want.

Thanks guys for all thoughts and pointing out stuff that I was unaware of.

The gentleman selling it (77 retired electrical engineer) did go through the vehicle and rewired everything. The only thing he didn’t get to is the wire on top of the tranny that triggers the back up lights to come on. He’s older and said his days of dropping major drivetrain’s components are over. I guess it hard to get to. The other thing is it needs is a Speedo cable.

I did drive the vehicle it drove smooth stopped and steered well.

It does have a handbrake that he installed and worked properly.

I’m not looking for the perfect 40. I have young kids who would love to jump over the sides to get in and out of. Just looking for one that have a solid frame and all the chassis is all there. The hoops on the front are definitely a deal breaker, especially when family will be riding in it.

Thanks again

The search continues.

I do have (10 years) a SC FZJ80 and my wife has a 200. Both have the LX in the badge….lusting over the thought of one that says Land Cruiser on the hood.

I wish you the best luck man! And consider this a success story so far, I had a silly idea that I should wait until I had a '40 to start posting here, I think had I done a similar post to yours I would have saved some serious time and money (and then again, I would have less knowledge than I do now as well). The most important thing is that you go in with open eyes

Ok thanks for the reply’s. Here’s a few more pics.

It’s def never going to be a show piece. But it’s not a 30k cruiser or even a 20K cruiser.

I hope you got to take the GT.350 out for a spin while you were looking at the Land Cruiser. Those early Shelby's are probably the most fun vehicles you can drive besides a 40 series of course.

The shock mounts would be one of the last things I'd worry about. They did that because the entire front axle, steering, sway bar, shocks, etc are all from a 70 series. Commonly done when trucks are put together in junkyards in Colombia where this is likely from.

Meanwhile this 1979 that is completely honest has been listed for sale here on the forum for months.

@4joggin

In my opinion where you are located and you want a FJ40 just buy a US FJ40, there are lot around Very Good, Good, Mediocre or Bad.

If you really want something special buy a FJ43 or Fj45 from outside the US with the same quality selections

People want the new paint, pay way more then hope that there isn't rust hiding under it. Unfortunately most the time that not the case. Most cases people then just resell it.

The problem with these things is they were rusting out on the boat ride over.

Most can't remediate that issue well.
So you get shiny, but still rusting out.

Not sure I agree with that. It's the design why they rust. Living out of the rust belt it's not that hard to keep the rust away. Fifty one years with my 68 I bought used in July 1974. I always kept the under side cleaner than the rest. Rrear sill and rockers are still perfect. 76 I bought in 2007. 70 bought in 2011. Both have original paint. 76 spent a good number of years outside before I purchased it. 70 was kept in a carport on the north side of the home.

73 had this one rust spot when I bought it in 1994.

It hasn't changed in that time. Sill between doors is perfect. Never figured why the quarter panel rusted worse than the sill. Not uncommon to see car haulers loaded with vintage vehicles leaving Arizona and most likely headed to the rust belt. Those states you find perfect interiors on rusted out classics.

I hope we are finally seeing rusty 40 prices coming back to reality!!!
