running stock locked gears, tires are 34” (285/75/17), skinny, i feel this rig should be lighter than my 80 which has good power. Thinking I’ll be just fine with stock gearsHoly smokes. That's a sweet project. So much going on here that I'll have to pick your brain on sooner or later. What gears did you end up running?
As I stare at posts about engine swaps/builds, how is the power with the 1FZ and the 60? Vs. the 80. Wondering if this engine would be a good route vs. a V8 down the road, maybe with a H55
I really like the idea of a 1FZ-FE engine in the 60. Its still toyota, and its still an inline 6 but with an aluminum head, 4 valves per cylinder, and cross flow design. Seems like a nice power improvement without getting crazy. Also there is a bell housing available for the 5 speed and a couple of old posts on Mud about the swap. Unfortunately I've not seen a complete thread about it.
Fj Co. has an adapter on their website for a 1FZ to H55/split case.... It seems like it always comes down to wiring... LOL
I want to keep my dash as factory as possible (not ruling out Speedhut type gauges).
I'd have to research the 1fzfe wiring...but it seems like there is no reason you couldn't run your stock gages. Unless the instrument cluster is an integral piece to the newer toyota engine wiring structure....or possible challenges if the 1FZFE is a can-bus setup.
Hey Zach, this is an interesting find. I do not know torque/HP specs but would seem the 12HT is fairly comparable to the 1FZ and possibly has higher #’s. If that’s the case we run H55’s behind the turbo diesel without any issues. I actually have the 2F clutch behind one of my 12HT’s.@Tennessee80, I went down the 1FZFE/H55F rabbit hole pretty deep a few months back. The snag that rained on my parade was clutch durability. It seems that the discs that work with the H55 can't handle the 1FZ over the long term. There wasn't a lot of info out there about this, but there was enough to make me bail on the idea. Twas a shame, because a manual 1FZ is such a sweet, sweet option.
