fob still locks and unlocks and key starts engine. So I'll try a case, cut the blade, and swap the guts ...

Get a YotaMD key cover. Nice upgrade from OEM

whoa, those are rad.
Even just the upgrade would add strength... Although 13 years wasn't a bad run for stock. But doubling that (as my lifetime car) wouldn't be a bad investment... 🤔

*edit: NM, I see how it's a component system, not just add the titanium layer to a stock fob.

Yeah, its the powder 3d print cover, plus titanium plates. You can re-use your key blade and the remote part, or get a new key blade VIN cut at the dealer for $25-35. I love mine, you can even color match to the car if you want.

Fob guts swapped to new fob shell, I couldn't see a way to swap the blade so now to get this new blank cut and ill be golden.

Okay!
So, dead key case 8/21/20...

Ordered these blank fobs (2 for $14ish shipped): 2 New Replacement Key Case Shell Keyless Remote Fob Uncut Blade Lexus Gold Logo | eBay

Guts (transponder) swapped stright over. The stock key's blade is molded into the plastic, so I could'n swap the blade:

And with a neighbor's time... SUCCESS!!!

New key running the GX 8/29/20! 🤯

So a Lexus (probably aftermarket housing) transpondered key, cut and working again, for.... Not much!!!!

Gary is a good guy, and if you're ever hosed with key needs in Moab, call on him (recognize that he has this business and like 2 other jobs too though ;)!!!

finally got one...

😝
Having dealer diagnose per codes, while it's in for the cracked exhaust mani... They just called me back reminding me it'll probably take 8 studs (i expected this and suggested that be in the initial quote) and said they'd save me labor on the code and experience suggests its a charcoal canister (of coarse)...
watching that bill climb part-by-part.

B U T it's getting done. I've been clearing those codes for like a year and a half.... 🙄😒

Only four things that cause this (in order of ease): gas cap, vent plugged, charcoal canister, purge valve.
I think I looked into replacing the canister a while ago... Sort of a job, but comparably relatively easy.

Thanks @Vlad , this is a perfect"order of events" checklist.

🤙

I PMed mine before I put in the aux tank as it is now above 290# of fuel and steel haha

Exhaust mani repair completed!

SUPER quiet again! I hadn't realized the slow increase in tictictic, until it finally let loose!
Hindsight, always 20/20: I had noticed my 07 was a little tickier than @Lifted's 05 (similar mileage) when we fiddled with his bumper last summer.... I recall thinking, WTF, why it is making that noise? his older 2UZ is quieter than mine!... 😝

So my PAX exhaust manifold failed in the tube bend upstream of the cat, NOT at any weld. But the failure was a nearly circumferential crack. I was surprised to learn the manifold in this car is NOT cast but welded tube. interesting.

pix of gasket for kicks too... hmm.

I replaced the 8 studs too (as I expected), but sadly THOSE didn't get returned in the box with the other broken bits I asked for :(

At any rate, she purrrs again!!

Oh, and I had them do my 5-tire rotation while it was there (46K miles on these KO2s, and they have 10/32 tread remaining), since I was due and was returning my 6 ton jack stands during this same drop-off trip (HF is 2+ hours away, as is the closest Yota dealer) and therefore lost the means for "safe" vehicle support at home ;)
So I turned those stands' in-store credit, plus a $40 off coupon into a tool cabinet (which gets surprisingly good reviews) for $250 :)

perfect fit (thankfully) for my wife to retrieve after the GX pick-up (Thanks honey!!) 😝👍

battery talk.

The interwebs suggests ar Quest has Die Hards now not Autocraft (rebadged same-same? 🤔
Replaced CQ Autocrap silver 27f (died in 3 years)... had 24 mo warranty (unknown if any prorated),

with Napa Legend Premium 24f with 24month free replacement and 84 month prorated warranty (and had a $20 mail-in rebate).
My NAPA doesn't have a 27f in legend premium, just legend which is only 18/72 and lower specs.
