I got an email from Cummins about free shipping on 2.8 orders over Christmas. While the $500 savings was appealing it wasn't enough to get me to send them $9000 at this time :)

The adapter we used will join the cummins with an H55f, H42, H41, etc.

Going to the oem bellhousing or to another adapter?
 
what i understand it is the axis industries adapter to the AA bellhousing... GM meeting in the middle. That 3k is killing me so I will be cutting my own R2.8 to an H55f ....

still waiting on the Torfab kit to be done though to save all the work of the mounts!
 
What's the total cost per additional hp/tq of this swap over say for example a 3fe? The 3fe has 155hp and 220lbft of torque. 2.8r has 167hp and 267lbft of torque. So that's a increase of 12hp and 47lbft of torque. If the 2.8r is 9000 dollars, that's 191.48$ for each additional lbft of torque, and 750.00 per additional horsepower. I'm guessing double the numbers for labor and other misc parts? Just trying to weigh the numbers.
 
Do you measure your beer intake in dollars per ounce also? :beer: The answer is who cares, don't put an ROI on this project. You do it because it's cool, because we get enjoyment out of driving something bulletproof and just different enough that people go nuts over it. People who ROI or measure fun per dollar aren't in this forum, they drive honda civics or hybrids :rofl:

When it comes to thousands of dollars, I start crunching numbers whether its fun or not. Plus, its easy for you to say, your the one taking the checks, not writing them. Its always easier to take checks. I love taking checks myself. I hate writing them.

And fuel economy, I love the idea of getting 4-500+ miles on a tank.

i feel the same way...I really want a diesel. I love diesels so much bought my mother a VW TDI Golf...thinking it would be her last car (i felt guilty almost looking forward to the day she got old enough that she can't drive and I'd take the car back! (hurry up and die mom!!!)

but seriously - as much as i love my cruiser (and I know i'd love it even more with TDI power plant) ...I can't do the swap myself. the labor is stated as $7,000. so that's $9K + $7K + whatever $$$ H55 cost.

at $20K it can't possibly only be about " is it cool or fun?" anyone who says don't do the cost/benefit ROI on that much money is either doing the swap themselves to save serious coin, or independently wealthy - or full of pooo!

maybe everyone on this thread is rich?
 
I wish I was just cashing the checks! ;) I’m not arguing, if you’re trying to save money, then keep the 2F. It doesn’t make sense to spend it on a diesel conversion. I’m just trying to say the truth here, I’m literally rubbing pennies together to keep my shop running, I’ve never even bought a new car and I never want to. But if I were in a position to, I’d rather put a diesel in my cruiser than give ford or Chevy 30k for a disposable vehicle

Please know I'm not trying to bash u in any way. I was just doing some math. I think the 2.8 diesel is a nice option to have, gives some extra power, but mostly big fuel mileage gains but at an expense of money up front. And their are other pluses n minuses mentioned in this thread. I will say personally in my opinion, if your only charging 7k to do a swap that's a screaming deal for motor swap labor for the quality your shop puts out. If someone wants tons of power though, a bigger diesel may be better. Either way it's still cheaper than buying a new cruiser

Exactly! I would much rather drop in another 20k on my rust free, great condition 60 than buy another ho hum suv that does nothing for my pulse.
 
This is the engine I was waiting for but when cummins said first quarter then second and nothing, I gave my money to Ford.
I love my 60 but I really like the ecoboost. My wife and I have outgrown our 60 but it has it's purpose. I will patiently wait for adapters and extra items to come out before I pull the trigger. Any time I upgrade parts never do I expect Roi. It's for our enjoyment and sense of trying something new or different.
Any special fuel requirements for this engine?

No one cares that you don't want to spend the money on a R2.8 swap.
