I can think of several good turbo diesels that bolt up to the nv4500.

So can I. 4BT, 6BT, 4BD1T, 4BD2T, that Mitsubishi thing you have, GM 6.2, 6.5, even Ford Powerstroke with a nice stack of adapters.

None of which compare to the 1HZ in terms of smoothness and closeness to "stockish-ness" in a 60/62 if you will.
I have not seen any engine swap into a 60/62 that looks as though it was factory as a 1HZ swap. In my opinion

Timing belt on a diesel is something I can't get past personally. Toyota is great, but they do not s*** gold.

Yes that does kill the whole Toyota diesel for me!

I've seen a lot of 5.3 Vortec builds that look factory, but I guess that isn't cool enough for you Matt :p

I'm watching this to see how it turns out. Took a lot of cojones to cut the floor like that. No turning back now!

So you're saying Moonshine doesn't look factory?! :flipoff2:

I will say, the 1HZ is slick as s***, especially with a turbo. Good luck getting parts in a timely fashion though.

Guys relax! I'm a couple years out from a diesel swap.

3FE suits my needs just fine right now.

Ordered some parts ! :bounce:

Hopefully the last NV4500 parts, and a couple small parts for the splitcase that I'm worried about losing, like the detent balls and springs. I need some of the Camry drain plugs like I have on my axles for it..

Making progress on the floor. Welded in captive nuts for the e-brake factory style.

The NV4500 shifter hit the steering wheel in first gear, it's a really long shifter and it's angled at the driver, I cut and re-welded the shifter base. All fixed. Rowing through the gears gave me some good motivation. Here it is in 3rd:

All fixed, I think this is in nuetral.
I might shorten the shifter, I won't know for sure untill after I start driving it. Not going to hack up my $60 bar of 1/2" round stock until I'm sure!!

Working on the passenger side. I want to put a hatch or access panel on the "step" portion to make it easier to get to the hi-low linkage on the transfer case. The area of that platform is 7"x10". Any ideas?

There's actually a ton of room under the passenger seat in a 62

Played around with cardboard and the TIG welder. Decided to make this section in a sheetmetal brake, like I SHOULD have done the main section. Also added an access panel to make getting at the Hi-Low linkage on the transfer case easier.

If you don't like the timing belt, try to source a 12-HT. I see half cuts in southern ca from time to time. No belt and it plays nice with most other Toyota parts. Not to mention its on of the best ever made...

What are you talking about? Am I missing something? Also 12HT will not "play nice" with an NV4500, lol.

Made and welded in the other side on the box, some gaps to fill. Not really sure if I'll be able to get the welder in there, might have to do it from the other side and seam seal this joint. Going to wire wheel the Dynamat there to weld in this section for good, not looking forward to that. Every time I've had to cut or grind through the deadening it makes a huge mess sending butyl everywhere.

Look at the last picture to see how much access to the top of the transfer case that box gives me !

Making it work, love the progress. Do you think that cover needs more bolts on it? Just to minimize rattles, etc. Will it have a seal or just metal on metal?

I put some closed-cell one-sided adhesive foam on the aluminum cover. It's only 6x9" as well, not very big. Not going anywhere.

I also plan to remake it in stainless, but the aluminum is just what I had offhand that wasn't steel.
