Like the way you get after it, in the school garage...

Why do your calipers need rebuilding? I thought you just put them on not too long ago?

How is the rust holding up?

It was a test to see how independent the truck can be of a workshop.

Front calipers are TLC (SSBC's with custom etching). Big monster calipers but are 10-13 years old and beyond overdue, it pulls all over during braking.

The rears are Toyota 80 calipers just cleaned up, I'll probably replace them with remans but I'm more concerned about the front. My vented front rotors (bling!) are totally shot as well.

I try to ignore the rust. It's in non-structural places. It's not bad but all hard-to-repair areas. I'm planning on either a body swap or major surgery probably 2018-2020.

This is sort of irrelevant to Land Cruisers. I've worn the Converse on the right ever time I've worked on my truck for the past two years. Time for a new pair!

There are holes in the sides? I have a pair of those somewhere lol

There are holes everywhere lol

Then I took it camping and rock crawling and it took a turn for the worse pretty quick...

Got it on some rocks then slipped bashing the transfer case which dislodged all three powertrain mounts, pushing the engine/transmission up 2", forwards 2", and clocked 10 degrees or so relative to the frame.

This position took about 2.5 hours to recover from. Being winched from behind by two FJC's and tons rock stacking. Got flat towed up hill by my friends FJC which was very impressive.

This rig is super capable, it just needs some armor (I have none). It's off the road for the next week until I get new engine mounts, then it's getting all new brakes, then exhaust.

Oh no!! Red is down!!

Armor is essential if you're going to push the rig like that. Love the tires!

Did the transfer case survive the rock bashing?

Also, with NV4500 tech, remember that there were a couple of different inputs and outputs for both the chevy and dodge variants.

After I'm done getting it roadworthy it's getting sliders and a skid plate.

Also just got a 3-speed bellhousing and inspection cover from the classifieds... The NV4500 project is officially on.

Haha it's man-made.

This just popped up in the classifieds... And it was too good of a deal to not pass up.

For Sale: - NP203 gear reduction box to FJ60/62 split case adapter in Calif

With a doubler the Dodge NV4500's 5.61:1 first gear is just fine! (STILL lower than H55F). And because the Dodge transmission has a longer input shaft it opens me up to the option of a plate adapter between the bellhousing and transmission (this exists, think SM465->NV4500 using the 3-speed bellhousing).

I've had two transfer cases in my truck now, factory FJ62 vacuum shift (rebuilt and driven to 40K miles) and currently a pre-10/82 34mm FJ60 case rebuilt with about 10K miles on it. I can say pretty easily that the 62 case is quieter due to the bearing supported gears. Now my original plan was Dana 300 because I wouldn't have to buy an adapter, but the double included an adapter and is a DOUBLER!!! So I'm keeping the split case... But going back to a 62 case. That way I'll be able to build it outside th the truck to minimize downtime, and it will be quiter. It will be converted to manual-shift.

Another great benefit to the doubler is that I'm thinking it's about the same length as the old A440F automatic, meaning I might be able to reuse the old crossmember (modified of course). And it should all fit under the factory floor. And I might be able to reuse my original driveshafts (which o still have).

So the line up looks like this:

3FE
3-Speed bellhousing
AA SM465 adapter
Dodge NV4500
NP203 Doubler
AA split-case adapter
FJ62 split-case converted to manual shift.

Now all I need to buy is.. A lot. I'm predicting Spring break 2016 is when this will go down.

Double Low with 4.11's - 104.68:1
Single Low with 4.11's - 52.34:1

Double Low with 4.88's - 124.61:1
Single Low with 4.88's - 62.3:1

Remember, the NV4500 has like a 30% overdrive, I can go to 4.56's or 4.88's and still cruiser at 80 I think. Need to run the numbers.

Here's some pictures I've found of various 203/splitcase shifter setups from trucks here on Mud. These are Mace's, Boot's and Chicago's. Not sure on whether I want to do triple sticks or keep a factory style transfer case shifter and second shifter for the doubler, or twin sticks for the transfer and a separate for the doubler. Pics in that order.

I'm leaning towards the last one because it's just badass.
