Followed advice of @trainbufftony and re-tuned w/ the high idle cam off and had high hopes that this would solve my current woes and I did so albeit at a lower vac (15 in. hg) reading and still have gas from the primary. Instead of being safe w /water checking for leaks I used carb cleaner and did in fact locate a vac leak at the manifold. :(
Not sure if checking/ retightening the manifold bolts will help but that's what I'll do to start. Maybe should have checked the surface for being flat before reinstalling the gasket. damn it.
It sounds like you are making progress!
On my 40 when I had some crazy random issues I figured out that the carb mounting stud closest to the master cylinder had come loose!
I went to check the tightness and found that. Much better now.

I have considered a header instead of the ⛵⚓ but, I was hoping to keep as stock as possible. I thought the heat valve on the exhaust if frozen (in the open position)View attachment 3764551 is ok to use. Any idea if this is the case?
Stuck open = cooking the bottom of your intake.

Question on the manifold re-surface. Machine shop said to tighten it back on the head w the vertical bolts loose then retighten the 3 vertical bolts once its secured to the head. maybe 15lbs or so. Then, bring it in to re-surface. my question: Once its re surfaced flat and bolted together properly should I just bolt it on or go through that same process again with loosening the vertical bolts first then torgueing it back on ?
I would talk to the guys at the machine shop about their recommended approach.

I looked in the FSM first and there isn't much detail on this part of the installation unfortunately :(
Typical.
Sometimes the FSM is really good, sometimes it is lacking.
And sometimes I just can't read all the words.

so 100% confidence that if stuck in the closed position or a block off plate is the correct way to do this to avoid a cracked manifold or other related issues?
Correct, you don't want to be heating the bottom of the intake the entire time. Just for warm-up...

I messaged them re f motor exhaust only. website indicated the only offer the full enchilada. ....
Sorry for any confusion.

Are you seeking exhaust for a 55?

Right now exhaust is for 40 series only, however I know @gonzopancho has been thinking about 55 exhaust. Possibly in stainless.

If you are after header for 55, that is available: TriMeki 2F Stainless Exhaust Header for 1969-87 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ40, FJ45, FJ55, & FJ60 with 2F engines - https://shop.trimeki.com/products/trimeki-2f-exhaust-header-manifold-toyota-land-cruiser-fj40-45-fj55-fj60

Oops NO. meant to say just the manifold

I may just go for it. Not that I am interested in re sale anytime soon but, If I decide to go this direction should keep the stock(boat Anchor setup for resale?
I think I would, Also just a thought Iam not sure but will a 2F intake and Exhaust fit a F Engine ? I think the exhaust outlet is bigger and better, Maybe someone can answer

If it were me, I would keep it.
If it were my wife, she would get rid of it.
She would probably get rid of the husband who wanted to keep it as well!

Srsly, it is hard to say. If you see yourself parting with it one day, and you want to be able to return things to stock, then keep.
Otherwise - send it!

2 gaskets and a block off plate results in this. Is the best work around to shave a bit off the intake or Dremel out the ears to make a fit?

manifold block plate fit.jpg

No first hand experience but that don’t look right, do you need the gaskets?

Someone will chime in…

Dremel out the ears to make a fit?
No, that would not go well. Your manifold ports would not align with the head ports. Those manifolds are mated at the factory, no two sets are exactly the same.
I might shave off a bit from the mating surfaces where the manifolds bolt together, just enough to match the thickness of your new block off plate and gasket.
Can you cut a round piece of steel that fits inside the exhaust manifold? An internal heat shield?
