Just a few spots where its integrity is so bad that it's pulled away from the door frame. I think there are 3 spots, not very large. I think he should be able to come up with something to make cosmetically acceptable to TUV.
Eating my doubts over here. Congrats on making it there. Sounds healthy to me and she looks pretty in the Bavarian sun!

So, another Betty Blue update.
Dieter took her out for her first spin on the mean streets of Wuppertal.
As you can see/hear, the new H55 is 'crunchy'. But what's really embarrassing is she ran out of gas, despite showing having a 1/4 tank. I paid to have the whole tank and fuel system redone, so, that's more than a little distressing. And just noticed, neither the tachometer nor temperature gauge appear to be working.
Dieter was not impressed, to say the least and his disappointment continued once she was on the lift:
I'm a little embarrassed to admit how much this endeavor has already cost me but based on what Dieter and his 'Meister' have discovered thus far, it looks like it will be another 5K-8K Euros to get her to a place where she can pass TUV. As Dieter says, there is some stuff that was done well, but a majority was 'half-assed'. You can see a lot of issues in the video.

What the hell happened on the front of the frame?? Why did they feel the need to weld that stuff on there?
I've got the tachometer out of my 86 that worked prior to doing the LS swap, not sure what it would cost to get it out there but you can have it for the price of shipping.

I’ll be heading to Nuremberg on 11th May for a week. If you need me to ferry over some parts let me know.
Well there are things that are still pending.
Dieter is a Ford Mustang guy that will pull this truck through "Der TUF" , but wouldn't be better to use a LC garage or 4x4 garage to organise that ?

A lot of this is likely contextual/cultural, too. German mechanics will characterize something as horrendously bad when over here we'd let it pass as inconsequential. Hopefully not too much more work to start enjoying it.

Thanks for all the input and offers for parts/assistance. Much appreciated. So, almost all of what still needs to be done is not necessarily LC/4x4 specific and so I'm comfortable with Dieter and his crew getting it over the finish line. He's a super nice, upfront guy who has stuck through with me during this pretty long process.
We had a long talk this morning and agreed, for now, we're going to do only what he feels is needed to pass TUV *and* get the 'old timer' classification. This is his sweet spot (and Mustangs, clearly, lol). There is an actual TLC specific garage south of Munich in Wolfratshausen and anything that's needed after passing TUV inspection, I'll ping him if I can't handle it myself. I'm pretty handy with a wrench and used to do most of the work on this truck but I don't have access to a garage here. For now, mostly TLC for the TLC.

Another update from the Fatherland. So, looks like there will need to be work done on the rear bumper as well, since it appears it wasn't fastened properly:

And a few photos ....I'm holding off on the window tinting and car alarm install just to make things simpler and reduce time until I can actually drive her. lol. We're converting the rear trailer hitch to an official German version so I can haul something or attach a bike rack, etc. Dieter thinks we can pick her up late next week. I'm pressing my thumbs!

Some bits and bobs that showed up this week in preparation for pickup (Hopefully this weekend). I think I might have gone a little overboard on the tow rope. It looks like it could tow the Titanic up from the depths.

Betty with her official German tow package. Apparently she passed TUV and documents will be sent for me to sign this week ... am asking if a May 30th pickup date is possible. Thumbs pressed, lol:

No, just that she already had parts of one that was NA-spec'd and Dieter suggested it made sense to make it EU-compliant in case we (n)ever wanted to sell it or needed to tow something (possible since wifey is a working artist and has some big pieces).
Also, on our walk to the post office, spotted two of Betty's neighborhood newfangled competition.

Sorry for all the updates of late, but this nearly 2 year process is getting close to coming to an end.
Here is the latest video ... as Dieter mentions, unfortunately, the paint on the roof isn't great. /sad face:
But the rest looks pretty good (aside from the carpet in the cargo area ... I'll sort out that when I get her.
And some pics ... hoping we can pick her up next week. And Dieter just sent the results of the motor/compression test. He said the motor has excellent compression (this was the first step I had Danny do to make sure all of this effort made sense). The spark plugs need replacing but that's, of course, minor.

Looks great, and few people can see the rooftop paint anyway. Rooftops are where we don't look for hail dents in Colorado (because they are there).

Again, sorry for the spam but I've searched this forum (and others) looking for a list of standard and extras options offered by the dealer when FJ60s were originally sold. We are trying to accurately value Betty for insurance and are basically needing to know what is bog standard on her and what could be considered an 'upgrade' offering. I listed AC and the H55 (even though it wasn't officially offered in NA). She had headlight washers but they never worked and Danny 'erased' them at the body shop, lol.
