Bumper end caps or extensions are made of very hard plastic and hardly bends ordinarily except when great pressure is applied like in accidents. You can use the same on what you use when painting body parts. I use Glasurit Epoxy primer/surfacer/filler. It works well on any surface and is tough when dry. Apply as much 3 coats and let dry well. I have done a reconstruction on the bumper extensions that was really bad and that I had to do it in order to save and stay within the budget. Bumper extensions

Man...I just read through your thread and that is awesome work. Quick question...did you use automotive grade paint or rattle cans? Also, what brand. Thanks for the help. Jim.

In this case, because all my finish is in flat or matte, I used automotive grade acrylic paint mixed with flattening paste.

So I've come up lame on the 60 build yet again. The truth is I've never said I would finish this project in record time. As mentioned above, my brother @kmj64 bought the 62 and we've had a blast working together the last 5-6 weeks (weekends) getting it up to speed. Trying to finalize a 5-speed conversion and installing an OME lift. Will be putting in a sweet new OEM dash as well. Outside of paint, this rig is turning out great. Kevin even power washed the underside and the frame is near mint. Maybe 5% of the frame has surface rust. Mainly under the radiator which was replaced by the previous owner. To boot, my addiction continues. I recently picked up a 78 HJ45, 83 BJ60 and some sweet HJ61 axels (hub to hub). Met a really good cruiser head out of Boerne (don't have his MUD name) and worked out a very fair deal. He has a Bad Ass HJ45 that he built with a 12HT and I plan to do the same (two projects down the list). J's 45 is the tan one in the pics. And he's a great resource due to his build experience and location. So basically we are getting some diversity into the cruiser mix.

Here's the spring job on Kevin's 62 and the BJ I picked up. Needs a whole new tub (Canadian rust). It may be a parts rig or I might put another tub on it. Have a good candidate sitting right next to it. Check out the side exhaust. Never knew that was an option :). Did a POR15 job on the 62 axels. Turned out really nice. Hope to get back on my sons build in August. Still need to paint the doors and finish the assembly. I'm just way too distracted.

Niice! -I might remember wrong... but isn't the leaves mil wrap supposed to be at the fixed end...? Now you have them at the shackle end...
TLC, are you talking about the springs? If so, I truly don't know other than mounting them in the direction of the arrow painted on the topside of the spring. Help me understand if I have them backwards. Seems every time I do springs I am not 100% sure which direction to mount them. Thanks. Jim

They are backwards, TLC Norway is correct. The extra wrap around the spring bushing eye is supposed to go on the frame end.

This is why I love the MUD site. Keeps novice dudes like me in line. So the same would apply for the rear. Fortunately you guys caught it before I finished mounting them up. Thanks.

Jim. All of that looks like fun. Great work. Wish I could be having a blast like you! I need to find more time to get in the garage.

Yes, diversity is very nice when it comes to cruiser saving. Crazy to think this whole collection started when we received my rig from gramps a good 10 years ago. Then @CenTXFJ60 said, "Only 60 series, I am not a fan of the others.." Few years later, "Only an 80 or two but they have to be 3x locked and killer deals.." Fast foreword a few years.. "Man, I cannot believe that I got a 40 series, this wasn't supposed to happen.."

Oh and BTW the 45 is going to disappear for a few decades so that you forget about it and I'll sneak it out of the back 40 ;)

That bad boy is going in the shop once I clear some room. Can't risk letting it out of my sight!

Well...it's been another long awaited return to this build. As mentioned in earlier posts, Frankie has taken a back seat to other projects and dedicating time to my mother while she was battling brain cancer. Two years later she's in a much better place. So now I'm refocused on this build. Painting the doors will round out the exterior. Plan to weave in a headliner install (will be a learning experience) and then start the assembly process. During this last 9 month break from the build, I decided to repo Frankie from my youngest son. He's gonna get our 85 Copper (stock w/an H55) as his high school DD. Therefore I'll be going with the zero mileage 12HT (long term) and pick up a new H55 for this build. Since I already have a driveline in here, I'm gonna get it back together and operable before I set aside another month or so for the motor swap. Here's some picks of the work I've done over the last week. Will get these sanded/buffed/hung and then move on to the other doors. This is still my favorite part of doing a build. A s**t load of labor though!

So I tried the buffer out. Still a few fine scratches so I may hit it a bit more. Had 2 runs (clear) in this piece and even though I sanded them out u can still see them in the light. Can't feel them so it must be something in the pigment of the paint. Makes a slight different color when u load up the material. Almost like there's a bunch of micro bubbles. Regardless. I'm not redoing it.
