I got the exhaust back on. Fired it up and it won't idle and it's running super fat.

I can give it 1/2 choke and it runs fine.

I left it for the day as it was 7 pm but here are my thoughts.

First off. It ran fine upon arrival.

Second, maybe the high compression head needs more timing. I did not look at that. I'll advance it tomorrow and try again.

Maybe I have a vacuum leak with all this taking apart and putting together. I did use a new isolator but I've torqued the carb onto it 4 times now.

Anyway. Tomorow I'll troubleshoot and hopefully get this thing gone.

I'm not sure the specs of the HIPo head but wouldn't a different cam also be required to pair with it? I'm assuming the valve train is spec'd different with stiffer spring rates and valve durations. Does the HiPo head have more/less combustion chamber volume? Head gasket thickness (compressed) can be a factor?

To get the full pull out of the heads it's best to have a cam and bigger pistons but I ran one on my blue 60 on top of a stock 2F and it was great.

More compression as he shaves them down a bit as well.

Thanks to @FJ60Cam for letting me pluck a Hi Po head out of your stash. I was able to hit the gym, my favorite restaurant Las Tortugas for a $50 lunch and grab the head drive home and stab it by 6:30. 💪

Pro Tip if you are putting a head on solo. Battery cable across the rear. Left hand in the thermostat hole

Photo evidence I did not install backwards

In place. Torqued to 90#

Top tip on the battery cable!
Also, is that raised heater pipe a custom unit or stock?
Don't recall seeing that setup before

Next time check the part numbers on the gaskets you use, lol.

It was probably tuned to run with the bad hg and now it's good. Just tune the carb again, lean drop test and whatnot.

Gross. All I know how to do is remove these things

For a guy who works on these trucks all the time, you certainly hate working on them, lol.

I hate problems. The way i eliminate problems is to take off all old s*** and replace it with new s***.

Monkeying with old s*** is not my thing.

I have never messed with points either.

Remove. Toss.
