I meant to ask... did the gray RTV do the trick and stop the drip?

(Talking about the transfer case)...

So I have created a check list as I'm feeling the pressure of getting this truck road worthy for the Solid Axel Summit in August. Also, my son recommended I do this to keep from wondering all over the place. There are several "in between jobs, but this list captures most of the major ones. Did the steering box reseal today so that one is off my list. Getting some momentum :). For anyone that's done this job you understand the two pics in the output section of the sector shaft. That nylon bushing is an absolute PITA unless you have the correct tool which I don't. The trick (thanks to @NeverGiveUpYota) is to make the heart shape and then put in the washer and C-clip and then flatten out the bushing. Otherwise that dam thing keeps slipping off the rubber O-ring. Have a small problem with the 62 lines mating up to the ports on the steering box. Both male ends are the same size on the 62 lines and the 60 box has two different sizes. Should be able to swap the one end out with the 60 line that I took off.

Damn that gearbox looks great. You even painted it. I must be wearing off on you!! Haha. Did that seal go in on the first try with Felicity's method? I had to go to church after all the swearing I did when we were trying to get mine in.

Boy never thought I'd get such flattery for something I'm really not 100% sure I thought up. ;) It does seem to do the trick tho! Thanks Jim for the acknowledgement. That painted gear box is seriously making me consider pulling mine since the pump is empty still and add some paint... or I might just mask it off and get some color on it since it is developing a layer of not quite rust but something like it.
You do gorgeous work!

Nailed it on the first attempt. Same with those 44 balls in the worm gear.

That's weird about your steering lines having the wrong threads that's the second thread with that this week (Need help with Steering box install), before this I have never heard of anyone having an issue.

On your checklist I can save you a step I run diffs into the housings gasket-less, just a bead of RTV of your choice. It's been successful for me with many axles and miles.

Nice work Jim. Will have to remember that trick, doing my box soon.

Yea Matt, they are less than a MM off. The 62 one is 15.5MM and the outside 60 one is 15. I tried it on another 60 (early) box and had the same issue

They are usually M16x1.5 and M17x1.5 for the return... that's what my 90 62 box has and I think my 80 box as well. Or at least I hope my 80 box does as I plan to swap that in.

@cruisermatt is right, that's what the late FJ60 boxes are as well. What were you measuring Jim?
Measured the width (at the threads) of the nut that goes into the box with a micrometer. I believe McGuire @mcguirejohnson had the same issue when he swapped in his motor and used 62 lines. Either way I found another PS line that came with a 12HT out of a 61 and it has the smaller nut. Problem is it's not removable. My box came off a 87 cruiser and the two ports are definitely different.

Huh. can you list your measurements along with what trucks your parts came out of?
I know my 62 high-pressure fitting is M16x1.5 but now that I think about it I've never touched the return side, I bought the M17 fitting for the return but haven't gotten around to installing it yet (I run aeroquip AN line for the high-presssure side and will for the return just so they match)

I have a new 62 high pressure line under my bed I'll pull it out and measure it in a few minutes.

Matt, your too technical for me :). What measurements would you like to see? Hell, I don't even know which side is the high pressure. I just screw them in. I know the port closest to the engine is larger by .5MM (roughly) than the port on the fender side. Let me know if I need me to dig deeper for you.

Chuckling... You and me both Jim.

I know for a fact that Jim has a pretty fancy bolt & thread gauge.

Anyway... I didn't think metric bolts came in half sizes. Maybe the thread pitch is different?
