Just a bit of info on the power steering.

75/80/105-series all have the same port size and thread pitch at the steering box for high and low pressure lines. This being diesel and gas. I have verified this because we got 70, 80 & 105 steering boxes in the shop as well as 75 & 80 high pressure lines. So I don’t see any issue using any combination on the box side of things across a lot of years, models and engines, it’s all the same.

The 1FZ has a smaller port on the pump for the low pressure feed. It’s also a completely different configuration as far as the actual port and it’s fitting. The FTE has a much larger port, even vs the FT. I was able to get the right combination on this port using the HDJ100 fitting in the HDJ79 pump. It just barely clears the steering box.

The high pressure side also needed the right combination. The HDJ79 banjo bolt is to long and you can’t torque it down on the pump before it bottoms out. This must mean the HDJ79/100 pumps have a thicker banjo on the high pressure line at the pump. Well we can’t use an HDJ79 high pressure hose because the HDJ79 came in RHD only. The HDJ100 is IFS so not compatible either. By the way the 1HZ powered 70-series the banjo at the pump is the same thickness as a 1FZ. However the 1HZ line kicks out a little to much at the pump and puts the hard portion of the line up on the steering box.

I got lucky in the the port diameter and thread pitch is the same as on the 1FZ. However the 1FZ banjo bolt is shorter.

So that solves the problem I encountered. I didn’t have to try other combinations or things like swapping the actual thread port between pumps. There could be other combinations that work. I don’t have a newer 1HZ 70-series pump or HP line around, only older. I will say that the FT pump and HP line is more like the 1FZ than the FTE.

Cheers

Should someone remind you that beautiful lift is just a few feet away while you use jack stands on that thing to clean the 80 up? Just wondering if there is some logic to this as I'm about to dig into mine a bit and clean it up down under. You got me thinking jack stands aren't so bad afterall as long as not a full frame off rebuild. Any insight into what touch up paint your using? POR and other products seem a bit extreme for the south west. don't really care for the high gloss finish here either,

Noooooo, no logic. 🙄

Lift is my service bay. Just yanked a 1FZ in it. Can’t have a truck with no axles on my lift for weeks.

Hijack. Try Eastwood chassis black paint

I needed to do some things to the FTE before I finalized the radiator. Such as,

Previous radiator fitting was just a test fit and to make sure no issues and we had all the parts. So today took care of last few little things in the engine bay while I had good access before final mounting of the rad.

I am not totally stoked on the fitting of the top foam, seems like they got a little lazy on this one. Will fix that up but otherwise the rad is bolted in for good.

Cheers

Is this torqued to 307ft/lbs like the 1FZ or does it get even more brute force?
