Well I figured that fuel pump block off plate issue.... the plate is different shape than the fuel pump flange and it is no doubt leaking down at the bottom where the gasket doesn't cover properly. Solved with a stock gasket on this plate. (was that mentioned earlier?)

Looking for pics of how people hooked their throttle CABLE to the Sniper. I have Jim S's (formerly Downey) cable rig and it is not making sense to me.

What plate did you use? I have the manafree one with no issues.

This is using a FJ40 throttle cable bracket off the edge of the sniper. Downey cable that Dustin did not use because I messed up my other cable.

The easiest way if it’s a 60 is to use the upper mount where the hand throttle goes. It takes a small plastic grommet. SoR has them and I think @FJ60Cam has them and the carb end brackets in stock.

I have the cable running through the firewall I have the bracket to hold the sheathing part of the cable I just don't have the mechanism to attach it to the throttle lever on the sniper. I got a kit from Jim of Downey fame but it is either incomplete or incorrect for this application.

@woytovich how again did you stop your leak? I have one as well at the block off plate. Not big time, but I didnt use rtv either. I'd have ran the man a fre one but they were out of stock at the time so I used one from Jegs.

The best way to seal the block off plate is to remove the fuel pump spacer, make sure the block is 100% clean of the old gasket, clean with brake cleaner, then use RTV only. Let it cure before firing the engine.

I left the spacer on as it seemed pretty well stuck to the block, I cleaned it up, used a stock gasket and it's not leaking. Oh and I used shorter bolts because the block off plate is thinner than the flange on the fuel pump was.

Not sure if this has been covered...but I'll try to be quick:

Catalytic converters need exhaust gases to cycle back and forth from rich to lean in order to activate the different processes that go on in the cat (Oxidation and Reduction). Carburators can only spray a linear amount of fuel based on throttle position....so....thats why you have an air pump and a myriad of vacuum lines. Toyota tried to create a very mechanical system to optimize the catalyst processes. EGR is used even on many modern day vehicles as a way to try to reburn the exhaust.

So EFI reads an oxygen sensor and if it sees the exhaust getting lean then it adjusts the duty cycle on the injector (s) and adds more fuel. if it sees the exhaust going rich it reduces the amount of fuel.....it cycles like this constantly....and thus eliminates the need for the air pump. You could still run the EGR if you were so inclined.

So moral of story is that leaving all the smog equipment in the engine bay is just there to take up space. I'd go ahead and do the full desmog....its not so hard to do and just keep all the parts in a crate should you ever want to go back to a carb.

I had no idea about the cat so thanks for the knowledge. I decided to get rid of the stuff taking space and my intake block off plate from Manafre just came in, but it doesn't seem the fittings fit.

You may be the first to tackle this without a desmog. My complete knowledge of the smog setup is how to pull all of it out and throw it to the side. I am sure it can be done, but will need to have some planning put in. Wish I could be more help here, but no experience in making that system work. I know we can help you with the component piece of it.

Haha I guess Ill be tossing mine to the side as well (or in a box for a rainy day since I live in CA). Good news is I think my Sniper came along with half my desmog kit. Where's best, quickest, and/or cheapest place to get the EFI to intake adapter? Also, thanks for starting this thread because I'd be lost right now, without it.

Where's best, quickest, and/or cheapest place to get the EFI to intake adapter? Also, thanks for starting this thread because I'd be lost right now, without it.

Redline cruisers are making a really nice one now, but not cheap. Downey still has some and then there is a Mr.Gasket you can use, but will need to take a dremel to it for bolt holes to work. I've seen them all work. If you haven't bought the Sniper yet @FJ60Cam is offering the most complete 2f kit I've seen for a great price with everything you need in it. He may sell just the adapter as well, check with him.

Give me a shout. We modify an inexpensive off-the-shelf adapter so that it sits on the FJ60 carb insulator, which is perfect for getting the height to clear the manifold studs and also acts as a heat shield for the Sniper computer. Comes with all mounting hardware.

I try to keep new carb insulators in stock too.
