I drove 800+ miles in 2 days across west Texas from Dallas, TX to White Sands, NM in august. It was 104 degrees in Midland / Odessa at the time and I dont think I would ever do that again in a 40.
I also drove from White Sands to Huntsville, AL (in My 60) about 1400 miles in 2 days in December with horizantal snow in Texas.

It is easily explained. :)

I noticed that your location is Michigan (MI). My location is one letter off

MI - I= M; M+S=MS

It is HOT in the summer here. Winter is a wonderful time to be in one!

wow what a bunch of :princess: & :flamingo:
PA, soft top, year round=DD :grinpimp:

in fact it's been raining the last two days. 4:30 tomorow morning it should be 40*s out and they want rain tonite yet.....i put the bikini on last tues.....when it was 85* and sunny. somebody is going to work with a wet ass(cloth seats)

well i am hopefully going to have mine ready to drive down from harrisburg pa to hatteras nc which is the south part of outerbanks in the middle of may.

Drove out solo to NY from CA in my '77 no radio no AC. Did the 3000 miles in 4 days. On the trip back to Ca, I did it solo again in 56 hours straight through only stopping for gas and juice. It was so hot during the day, that I would keep driving until the sun went down. By then the temperature was cooler and more pleasant to drive so I kept going. Not one issue both ways...oh wait I lost a tire on my trailer I was pulling. The lugs nuts came loose and the tire passed me on the highway... chased it for miles in a farmers field. Took of a couple lugs from the other side until I could find a store. What a trip that was---gas was quite a bit cheaper when I made that journey. Once I got into Tacoma's it is hard to want to take the FJ40 out beyond town ;)

from MO to FL a couple times w/bikini top. Lessons learned : Bring spare belt, dist.cap, and rotor, wear lots of sun screen on left leg, Bring $100,000 dollars for fuel. Good trips though. :)

love it...nothin like stickin your left leg out and puttin your foot on the fender doin 70 down the interstate, ha ha.

and nothing like cleanin dirt and trash off your ballsack 4 hours later, either...

i know i'm late on the thread...but i had to toss mine stuff in

heck yeah do it....

if you want to be real adventuresome, just head out one day, and don't tell your cruiser where you're headin...none of this 'checkin the oil' crap, just surprise! we're goin to the beach...

ha ha, i driven my '72 40 all over to get parts for it. heck, it's my dd here at clemson and i take it home to fort mill (south of charlotte) everytime i come back.

oh, and it'll be even better at the beach if you don't have the top on it.

(let me know if you need a bikini top or something like that...i have a spare with the cab/duster back on it that a guy in upstate gave me and i'm not using right now)

oh, and no radio....if God wanted me to have a radio in the cruiser, then we wouldn't have given me such a pretty sangin' voice....

(who can whistle much louder now than he could before he owned his cruiser)

Just did 1500 miles round trip to Moab and back. Ran so well I wrote another article for TT about it! ;)

well was going to drive my 74 40 on its first 500 mile trip this weekend then back next weekend. well after 120 miles it decided it didn't want to finish the trip. was going to take three days to do the trip but the first day transfer case sprung a leak then once i took it apart one of the mounting tabs was broke so got it fixed and oil back in it and another bad engine oil leak poped up. oh well had to finish the trip in the car have to try and fix it next saturday

I have driven my cruiser the 2200 miles to Cruise Moab for the last 3 years WITH my 1500 lbs. tent trailer in tow. Zero failures. The first year we did it in 23.5 hours..... non stop. I'm wiser now, I think.

A fellow CottonLand Cruiser member and I are heading out to GSMTR from Jackson, MS on Tuesday evening. We should get past Birmingham, AL before we call it a day. Then on to Tellico on Wednesday. The return trip will be done on Sunday. Looks like 500 miles each way. We will be in my camo '77 FJ40 with bikini top and 1/2 soft doors. Wish us luck...

Sure would. I drove it from D.C. to Pittsburgh and back (about 500 miles round trip) a week and a half after I bought it. No problems.

chat chat chat chat chat....

i can see both sides of the argument.

move it to chat you'll have the softies in 100 series going "why not?"

nothing better

Just put on 2300 on the '75 40 with now 157k. We took it easy, average 55mph on and off road :) Zero issues. Mostly CO and UT (moab of course). No top, highly recommended!!! The passes were cold and UT was hot. :)

That was the first major trip and all I have to say is WOW I wish I didn't have to come back. Have fun!
