Rhino lined engine compartment of my 78 cruiser. The motor is off for rebuild and since I had it out I decided to redo the terrible paint job the previous owner had done. Stripped down to bare metal did a primer and two coats of liner and one coat of gloss clear high heat

I just wish somebody sells a Crate 2F engine...
There was a place I would see adds for a built 2f motor. It was pricey though think I remember it being something like 5600. Maybe it was LCE I'll look at my old bookmarks. Just looked those were 22rs.

I guess you could say Craigslist sells the 2f as a crate engine it just comes with a 40 or 60 around it ;)

Pulled the trigger on a fresh straight from the factory Chevrolet Performance 383 crate engine. :grinpimp:

HT383 Small Block Crate Engine | Chevrolet

BTW, I didn't pay anywhere close to the listed MSRP. :bounce2:

Congrats! The 383 is a nice engine, I had one in my Plymouth Satellite back in 1971, great performance! One of the bad things about the Plymouth 383 was the positioning of the spark plugs they are pretty well covered by the exhaust manifolds, had to lift the car to change the plugs, hopefully the Chevy 383 has better accessibility to spark plugs.
Good luck with your build!

You can buy a rebuilt 2F here for $2,600 with a 5 year warranty. http://www.enginehaus.com/

The Chevy 383 is a stroked 350, different animal altogether, so the plugs have easy access.

Locked my rear end up with an Aussie Locker (as part of a bigger brake/axle overhaul that has taken me all summer).

Yes, I'm missing a stud. That's getting fixed too...

cupInstalled some floor mats made from some material I bought from sears. It was supposed to be a exercise mat. Not sure how well it will hold up.

Hey that looks great. What order did you replace these in? I want to do'em all, but can't decide which one to start with.
Racer - NOTE, if your rig's steering is acceptable before you start, take dimensions between all the joints and use these dimensions when installing the new TRE's. That way the steering will be close when completed. If the steering is not acceptable or no known reference points, thanks to Coolerman, here is a good place to start with some dimensions: http://www.globalsoftware-inc.com/coolerman/fj40/21.htm

FWIW, here is the sequence I used:
With the 40 on the ground, I started with the drag link TRE at the center arm. Then I jacked up the rig, and installed both the passenger side TRE's. Next was the driver side TRE. I used a dimension of 47.44" between the center line of the passenger & drivers side TRE's, and tried to centered up the Tie-Rod between each threaded end. Finally, I installed the relay arm TRE at the center arm.

Plan on doing an alignment after you've installed all the TRE's.
