Oh, and my 40 finally received the front end alignment after the TRE replacement, and rebalanced the tires....I think I may have hit 70MPH on the highway? :hillbilly:

I Electrocuted my badly rusted FJ60 frame? Second picture is the almost-white clean steel.

Finally found the electrical gremlin that's been haunting me for months! Yay. Added a bank of cigarette lighter charger things inside my center console so I can have my phone charging while locked in there. Started to mount a CB a friend gave me (he didn't think honking and yelling out the window was a good way to communicate... it's always worked ok for me), I'll finish that tomorrow and then the lid has to go back on before it rains this weekend. That's going to require me tricking some friends into coming over....

Did you paint these? They will rust
I have not painted them yet, but that is on my list to get done quickly. I'm ordering a quart of POR-15 or Chassis Saver to cover these, as well as a few other items that need painting.

Thanks!

Refreshed my bottle jack today. Turned out to be really yellow after seeing it so dirty for so long.

Another "finally" post...

I finally chased down the ever present and annoying rattle from the passenger door while driving. It was simply the door lock rod making contact with the metal door. Some foam padding and now wonder why I've put up with it for so long! :hillbilly:

So, this is really what I did in the last 5 months, but AT LONG LAST my FJ40 is back on the ground. I spent the summer converting to 4 wheel disc brakes, rebuilding the front and rear axles with all new seals and bearings, new shocks, fixed some steering issues, installed an Aussie locker in the rear, tightened up and resealed the diffs, new paint on the axles and suspension components, and brand new brake lines all around. Glad to finally be able to stop without changing lanes!

Only issue - with the caster shims I added, I now have too much pinion angle, and my front driveshaft bottoms out - the cause? My V8 is mounted WAY too far forward in the bay, and my front driveshaft is, as a result, ridiculously short. Looks like the next big project will be re-doing the horrendous V8 conversion...

Why haven't you got grease nipples on them? (Is it perhaps because those boots don't allow excess grease to escape?)

I always like to put fresh grease in all my steering balljoints as part of regular maintenance.
(I don't think "sealed-for-life balljoints" will ever last as long as ones that can be regularly regreased.)

I'm still running original balljoints and I just replace the boots from time to time (whenever they start to fall apart).
