What have you done to your Land Cruiser this week? (37 Viewers)

I looked at my '69 wistfully, wiped a single tear from my eye and patted the bare steel tub that's currently upside saying "some day I'll get back to building you..." followed by tripping over all the parts I have yet to find a spot for

Then I continued renovating my house so that I can move in and work in my new garage.

Also yanked off some horribly done front tube bumper and rear tire carrier the PO of my dad's FJ had put on, figured I couldn't let them last a whole week. The holes were not drilled but look to have been cut with an oxy-acetylene torch. Pics tommorow maybe just to show how bad some people's work can be.

I understand how you feel. After working on my 1969 for 5 years 10 months I drove her for the first time. Yes, it was a good feeling, oh what a feeling.

That scares me, because I have tried to build a schedule - and holy crap - I am already way behind! I got the tie rods off and the new ends in last night - but that damn pitman arm is killing me!

Fitted a new ARB air locker and switched from 4:56 back to stock 4:11 ratios.

I can use first again now :D

Next up I have to swap the front crown and Pinion to match, once my new 30 spline Bobby Long Chromolly axle and CV comes in for the long side.

nice job on the vent covers you wanna make me a pair . :grinpimp: i am in need of a pair, i don't have any covers left at all:cheers:

Decided to machine the two cab decompression vents for my hard top out of billet aluminum. One of the plastic ones broke in half and the other was cracked. Should have them installed by tomorrow.

I've given up on trying to set up schedules for when any work will be done. I flat flew the first two months I had mine then next thing I knew I was moving my body, frame and parts over the course of a week to a new house and there it's sat since. Basic goal is running and drivable in the next year.

@pappy: Sounds like how my 84 T/A is turning out to be, have had it since middle school (now an extremely poor college student) and it's at the "rolling chassis awaiting a ton of custom body work" stage. They're always worth it when you're done though, a part of the family at that point.

Diesel42 - you should figure out a price - I could use 2 sets, I'm sure there is a lot of demand out there from late '40 series owners.

Kootenay Kruzer- If there is enough interest were i can cut down setup time would help on the price. There are several set ups to machine these vents(angles/radius's on the top, multiple pockets to except the oem baffle on the inside, and the slots). It took me the better part of a day to make these two. I've made alot of custom parts for the forum guys. It always cheaper to do large quanities(100 or more is usually the standard) but if anyone's interested in a set post up. These are made from solid 6061 marine grade billet aluminum and except the OEM baffle parts. I made a set of vents for a wealthy car restorer that he wanted that costs him $300.00. If enough guys want a pair i could do them for $60.00. Cruiserparts.net wants $45.00 each for the few used ones they have. My shop is so slow right now at least i could pay my guys. Let me know, happy to help, need the work!

Pardon my ignorant question, but what does a decompression vent do, and how come I dont have those???

Found the rust on my "rust-free" BJ42. :frown: PO hid it with Bondo.

Sand blasted it and painted it with Rustoleum as a temporary fix.

There's some metalwork in my future.

KY Longhunter- on the sides towards to rear of the hard top sides are two plastic vents which cover and hold a baffle that enters the cabin. This provides for an outlet of air when the windows are up when you shut them, etc. Not sure what year they started putting these on at the factory. Problem is there plastic and are prone to breakage.

Needed 60 axles... Today I bought a cruiser sight unseen... and deliverd. Wife paid him and gave her the title as I was dropping off my 40 frame at the blasters.

Got home, muscled the 60 in the garage.

2.5 hours later, had the accessories, and body off the frame.... Thats how you get to the axles right? Take everythign off of them first

$60 a pair sounds OK to me, I was thinking of doing this myself but only have a drill press and hand files to work with which would be a major time-consuming PIA.

Lets hope enough people like this idea to make it worth your while.

Took the roof racks off the '79 and put them on the '83 with a plywood platform to mount the spare as I need the room inside the truck for a kennel for the cats if we have to evacuate our town.

It's not intended for heavy wheeling, but having said that it seems to me that the spare weighs less than the canoe, if my muscles are an indication, and the canoe has ridden on top of the '79 a whole lot of kilometres both on and off road.

Well this is over the last few weeks.

Rebuilt and installed 8274 Warn with MAF bumper and MasterPull XD line with sling hook and Marlin Crawler fairlead (birthday present from wife and Jr.)

Built up a short rack to sit on the back of the family rollbar and still be able to use the bikini top. I bought some lights from Northern Tools to light things up sideways and back. Also planning removing some old lights and installing rock lights.

Reworked my duel battery setup and got rid of the cheap junk battery that bought the cruiser with. I used an ACR ( Automatic charging relay ) from West Marine ( Blue Sea ). The accessory battery is new and a Class 34 Diehard Platinum II Marine deep-cycle. Still need to clean up the rest of the wires under the hood.

Replace hub wipers. The old ones were all torn up.

Installed Smittybuilt center console . I was turned on to this by other forum members. I had to fabricate a custom frame and bracket to put it at the right height and distance but it was worth it. It's also 1/3 the price of a Tuffy. Inside I put a water resistant Blue Sea fuse block with light up fuses for the accessories and a 450watt power inverter for family use. Still need to clean up and dress the wires.

Also put some Acura RSX cloth seats in but forgot to take pic.

That's about it... broke for now :bang: :meh:
