Had a little more time with the magic eraser this morning before heading into the quagmire of LA traffic to see my sister

Wait until you take it off road and find out you’ve got a new granny low range! It seriously can crawl a 40 over the rocks. In this shot I’m crawling the Karma Cruiser over a rock with the GR starter bc the 3speed low range was still too tall for it.(Katemcy 2009)The previous owner installed an old clunker of a starter from CarQuest when the original died, it’s slowly been getting worse so I decided to upgrade to a Toyota reman GR starter. All is can say is wow. If you haven’t done this mod do yourself a favor and get one, took me about 30 minutes to swap it out. It does sound a little “new” for a 40 but I’ll get used to it.

I agree with Charlie about this R&R. I let an old school starter shop guy rebuild my many-decades-old starter for about $60 and it spins theLove that fat power cable 2/0? Take that old starter apart. Polish the commutator with a flat file wrapped with crocus cloth. Open up the solenoid and dress the big copper contacts to flatten/remove the arc divots. Clean and lube the bushings, springs, and all the parts in general.
Servicing the original starter 28100-60041, 28100-60061 is not very difficult. Finding replacement parts for a complete rebuild is. It’s also not easy on the wallet. For me, I like the original sound of the OEM starter. The previous owner installed an old clunker of a starter from CarQuest when the original died, it’s slowly been getting worse so I decided to upgrade to a Toyota reman GR starter. That’s awesome! If my starter had been an original Toyota model I would have likely gone this route, I didn’t feel as loyal to the aftermarket one that was on there. Definitely a different sound with the GR starter, sounds like my 62 now - I don’t hate it.Servicing the original starter 28100-60041, 28100-60061 is not very difficult. Uh OhPlease excuse my ignorance, how do you do this trick?
It is very helpful when you are going uphill or just in some rocks and you stall the engine. Just put it low range and first gear and crank the starter without pressing on the clutch. The starter will turn the engine which will turn the wheels and slowly move you. The engine may fire up as you are doing it and then you keep on going. Please excuse my ignorance, how do you do this trick?

Big thanks to Jeff @Chungas Revenge for the tailgate panel. Also, I found and installed our headrests.

Thanks....l'm probably too used to caressing the side seeking every blemish.....once l've sanded the black rust proofer back again it might feel alright... guaranteed if l try for perfection with it & l think l've got it .. as l'm driving down the valley a boulder will roll down a hill & smack the side....Looks fine from here.![]()
Scars are like tatoos, but with better stories. My 45 bed has a nice scar down the side from an entanglement with barbed wire!Thanks....l'm probably too used to caressing the side seeking every blemish.....once l've sanded the black rust proofer back again it might feel alright... guaranteed if l try for perfection with it & l think l've got it .. as l'm driving down the valley a boulder will roll down a hill & smack the side....![]()
