Drove into town to visit my official parts counter. Someone had mentioned in a thread here somewhere about those little e-clips that hold down the little ball in the accelerator pump in our carburetors. I decided I needed some too, just to be safe. So I called this dealer."$6.18 each", they said. So I found them on-line for less than half that, ordered 5 and picked them up at the same dealership. Then I went down the street for a tasty burger.
It’s the perfect size to cover the hole someone drilled in your tub when they installed a CB antenna.

I’m glad you posted this winch on your 40. It inspired me to get mine installed sooner than later. I had decided to hold out for an 8274 until I saw yours
I didn’t do much, but I did run into a nice topless FJ40 in Castro Valley, CA on my commute home! Looked to be a 73ish. No photos, but it was super peppy, had to be hiding a V8 under the hood!

I took the stl file that I found on this forum. I then opened it in rhino and increased the thickness to 7mm.
I had it grown by xometry in fiber reinforced dyed black. Check my previous post for the file author.
Really strong.
Process.
I drilled 2 holes in the door then self etch primer the holes.
Cut butyl rubber to fit the mirror mounts.
Drilled 2 matching holes in an aluminum plate as a reinforcement for inside the door.
Attached the mirror with split washer and made sure to use anti seize. Tighten and done.
The reinforcement plate is a must in my opinion. The spring in the mirror is very robust and may cause damage to the door skin if changed position to 1/2 or full folded.
My mirrors are NOS from my defender build, forgot I purchased them and found them in storage.
We currently are hovering around $5.40 USD per gallon... down from $6 USD a gallon. With a 15 gallon stock tank and a 21 gallon rear tank it's about $200 USD to fill up if tanks are fairly low.
I suppose the flip side of that is that I just filled up for the first time last week since 2022. When I put the truck back on the road I had to adjust the idle tune on the carb to stay running on 2022 fuel. Now that I have new gas in there I'm readjusting the idle to run on 2024 gas.
I don't recommend letting gas sit for that long... even after cleaning out the carb, and adjusting the fuel mixture and idle speed... it would stay running, but not like it should. I chose to use up as much as I reasonably could before refilling with fresh gas. Now it'll idle smoothly as low as 500 rpm.

Cooler weather. Checked the tire pressure on two vehicles. Lotsa lows.
In the process, I discovered physical damage on an outboard sidewall. Time to change a tire. Time to order a tire. Time to find a spare wheel for a different car. I may as well pull out that (enormous) gallon of Ru-Glyde from storage; I'll do my own mounting and balancing.

The Zeon is a nice bit of kit. I’m holding out for one myself. Are looking at an 8 or 10k flavor?? Synthetic?
I have a 12k synthetic hanging on my other cruiser that has only been used to winch the 40 in and out of the garage a few times.
Overkill for the 40. However it’s “free” and not being used.
If the 200 ends up going on a “big” trip I have planning time and can always swap it back if I think I’ll be in a situation where it might be needed.
Got some pieces fixed on the frame this past weekend, just need to weld in a few more supports and drill and sleeve the rear crossmember for the bumper, one step closer to powdercoat!
$75.72 for a solid sidewall. Refreshed the spark plugs, until the tread actually arrived. DOT-code on the outboard-side, with a manufactured-year that I can actually remember. Spare, never used, spare-wheel. Fresh valve stem, and a manager with a stale four-letter-word storm at the auto store. Ru Glyde soap applied.
Too much mounting-soap, but the second bead seated just fine after it dried. Valve core removed, and air-chuck swapped for air-gun-nozzle with soft tip, seated first time with the little air tank that could. Even in the desert, you gotta have a drier on your compressor. Valve core replaced, 27-psi, and plenty of duty-cycle on the pump to fill it up. The tire-mounter / bead breaker is mounted to the base of an engine-crane, with the aid of (welded-closed) eye-bolts looped around the eyes of the crane's hitch-pins.
My tire mounting bar slipping around isn't pretty on the paint - I like it that way. Bubble on balancer is in the window first try; no weights attached.

@Grayscale This job is a real pita. It took me 2 hours and all of the strength in my body to get this mounted…you have my respect
Absolutely, welded some plates in first so my crossmember would be level across it and to give me some more surface to weld to
