So the nieghbor gave me a 50’s(?) ford trailer. Complete with some tires that were at least 30 years old. One tire would hood the weight of the trailer without air, but the other side had a large flat spot where the sidewall had given up the ghost. Made for a pretty funny jumping jack bringing it home.
Oddly enough, it has a 6 lug axle( maybe Chevy?). So I figure I’ve got a set of swampers on some Chevy rims.
View attachment 2853455When I tried to remove the tire/rim, the nuts were easy, but the rim wouldn’t budge. Out came the 3# sledge, not much movement. So I went redneck on it!! I put three of the nuts on loosely and hooked it up to the cruiser. Took about 1/8 of mile but the rim came loose at 10mph. Fortunately, the other side wasnt as bad and succumbed to a couple taps. Got brush cleared and delivered to the nieghbor for a bonfire meant to summon Ullr. We are having to worst start I’ve seen to winter. View attachment 2853454
On a related note( & I know this isn’t lc related), does anyone by chance recognize these 17” rims? They came on the 50’s(?) ford trailer, but the axle is Chevy six lug. I’m trying to decide if they are worth saving.

No idea what it is, but I think you should keep them because they look cool and fit the vibe of the trailer, or get matching wheels to your land cruiser wheels to fit the truck

I keep toying with the idea of using a spare as an air tank to run an air nozzle?

Finished as much electrical as I could then carefully secured the defrost vent hoses with left over 2.5 exhaust couplings. The vent hoses are no longer available. The hoses are still springy and rubbery. The rubber couplings started to break apart and would no longer attach. The springs in the vent hose help push the larger side of the coupling over the factory defrost hole. It is surprisingly a nearly snug fit. I may add a set screw just to make sure they don’t come loose.

Best place to mount fuse blocks other than the glove box?

Here is where I stuck mine.

It runs my light bars, horn, headlights, fuel pump, and a few other fused-relay things. Super compact and easy to wire, and it's fully waterproof.

Absolutely. The evolution of a FJ40 enthusiast goes something like this.

See your first FJ40 in the wild as a kid.

When you have enough cash, (around $800 for my first 1972 40) you buy one when 18 then drive it everywhere with no knowledge on how to repair it.

Sell it to guy looking to drive it to Alaska to live off grid.

Buy another and drive it from MA to Colorado and back twice in the early 1990's.

Sell that one then wait and buy another 27 years later at auction.

Realize that you are on your own with repairs as no one wants to touch it in your area.

Learn how to do your own work. Buy parts, more parts... then more for fear they will disappear.

Collect enough parts where you realize you need to buy a second FJ40 because two is better than one.

Accept that you now need to build a shop on your property to work on and store your FJ40's and the parts you've collected.....

Your wife cannot understand why you spend so much money, time and energy on driving a relatively unsafe and uncomfortable truck.
Surprisingly similar to my tale… only I’ve never sold the first… or bought any other drivers. So far only one rusted out carcass which I picked clean and distributed to fellow vultures.

This looks like one of those drug bust photos in the news. "...an estimated street value of____"
The product in the baggies is equally addictive.

Looks very similar to a Willys trailer that I sold year ago. They were built after WWII to use on farms. Looks like the ‘same’ trailer built by a different company. ‘Same / Same… but different’

I have one like that too. It is a 1946 Ben-Hur which was the civilian version of a WW2 ammo trailer. It has been in my family since it was new. It should look cool behind my 68 FJ40 when I get it on the road.
