Getting myself back on topic for this thread now. I bent some fuel lines and installed an OEM Carb finally. What a difference that made!!!! It’s almost like it was made for it! LoL PO had installed a Weber 32/36 which was reliable and problem free, but anemic. A friend gave me a 38/38 to try a few days ago. It was different. Better. But not great, and very thirsty! I rebuilt this OEM carb, ordered some jets per JimC recommendations in other threads. The jets arrived Saturday so the OEM swap was go-time!!!

I can’t believe how nicely it runs. More power. Smoother. Starts easier. Just all around better.

Nice work, so what jets did you finally decide to go with? BTW you fuel lines look super, I need to learn how to do that because mine are all bent up.

Primary: 147.5 main, 55 slow
Secondary: 220 main, 70 slow
I wish I knew a source for slow jets, I ‘d get a slightly bigger set. Thanks for your advice on jetting.
I did my fuel lines in aluminum tubing with a harbor freight bender. It wasn’t hard, but it took several hours because I wanted it to look nice. I’ll redo them in steel eventually.

I’m a mechanical dufus but I’m assuming a bad axle seal or a leaking brake component.

Got a new place to work on my 1976 fj40.

Well against my better judgement I dove into the 73’ I had planned to sell as is.

New carburetor, intake and exhaust manifold with gasket, plugs, wires, cap, fuel filter, and valve cover gasket all going on. New hardware to secure it all back down as well. And yeah that is the exhaust manifold...

Dropped off my '74 with Javier at Gulf Coast Crawl Shop in Houston (thanks for the lead @duggy...Javier knows his stuff). The road to restoration has begun. Working on the radiator, headers, installing new fan & shroud, master cylinder, disc brakes, some bodywork, repaint, stereo/speakers, Trollhole-style soft top & bow kit, BTB center console. Now I just need to figure out which kid to sell to finance this operation.

putting it together: rear doors etc. wasn't sure if this was a good idea or not but figured I'd give it a try... time will tell. used poly tape between the hinges and the body to prevent galling of the paint. if you've never used this tape before, it's fantastic: doesn't break down in weather and comes off clean (sealed some exterior house windows with it - even after 6 months was fine).

got the cowl vent assembled. if i had known/ remembered they used those 'clip nuts' to secure the grill on the body i would have welded nuts on the backside when i was doing body work. i just bear putting the clips on the fresh paint.. just seemed wrong, so i was able to sneak nuts on the backside with some specialty tweezers. i'm not going to think about what it's going to be like in 5 years if i have to remove them

Put gas in it yesterday, and drove it to work again today.

Edit: Almost forgot: I also rolled up the driver-side window for the first time--in 8 years.
