Looks amazing...how did you paint your heater control lever?
Thanks. If your referring to the white lettering just a sharpie paint pen. Had my wife do it since she has a steady hand.

What year is that beauty?

That is 12-76 and I have spent the last 7 1/2 years working on the restomod, although only 15 minutes at a time as I joke about it. Total rebuild. Thanks for looking at it. It is my fourth FJ40, having sold the previous three when my three boys went through school and yes, I am keeping this one. Have driven it 523 miles since engine rebuild so time to dump the break-in oil and filter. Runs great and gets down the road just fine. Special thanks to all the fellow mudders and Woody for this fourm for the advice and numerous tips I have learned over the years. I will be posting a rebuild thread soon.

I feel your pain; 27 f where I’m at. But I put a woodstove in my shop this summer so it’s actually 75 in there right now.

Heatwave here as well 🤣. I did go out and connect the battery tender to keep the battery charged. 👍
It’s supposed to be 30F in Breckenridge today. I told my wife we need to go skiing to warm up!

Carb cleaning day here. Got my rebuild kit and my Berryman Chem-Dip.... The good stuff from the old days and actually works. 15 minute soak for each of the carb body parts. Screws and linkages are soaking now.

KOOL Beans Old skool chem dip .

i STILL have my original NAPA gallon can from high school era circa 1990 , its still good after u paint strainer mesh it out after each use

i learned in 9th grade Vo-Tech , that if you do a inital soak , remove and while still wet with dip use a BRASS tooth brush only , remove any loose stuff left over and this has a side benefit too , POLISH level you can only imagine ,,,,,

i have achieved a NOS look with some good detail brass brushing and dipping brush in some dip too to keep it good and all wet down during this step by step process , after a solid brushy brushy all around , re-dip for another prescribed on the CAN POT LIFE time period , your 15min sounds about spot on

you time will be well spent and be very rewarding , so much so after your rebuild and restore is finished , apply 3 very tad tad mist kotes of acrylic marine grade aerosol lacquer for a NOS for LIFE look that will last the test of the foreseeable future .....

the brushy and second dip alone are solid TECH alone , removing as much caked on GRUNGE is only gonna make your rebuild end product performance results that much more killer kool ....
