Fixed up the hacked wiring harness to the license plate holder and replaced the bulbs with LEDs:

I got them at Super Bright LEDs:Where did you find those LED's for the license plate? I've looked around and can't seem to locate any the right size.
What is the plan? Was all stoked to have it back on the road after it being sidelined for more than a year. I got a new timing chain, water pump, and Rad put in.
When it was flashed up it sounded great other than an intermittent tap at a low idle and about 2200 rpm. After a few minutes the tap became more steady and louder. Seems to be "under" the intake and valve related. If has good power and sounds healthy, other than the unhealthy noise.

I did 1) with the sudden onset of knocking on my '84 FJ60's 2F and discovered one bent pushrod, everything else seems to work fine. I'll be back out to our place in Nevada in three weeks and will replace the bent pushrod. Keeping my fingers crossed. After our last trip out there when I discovered how (hopefully) easy it'll be to fix the knock I headed over to the local DMV office and re-registered it after ten years, and in the process got a new license plate:1) Pull the covers and check valve/rocker operation.
2) Touch a long rod to various surfaces to see if I can hear the source. With and without it running.
3) Pull the intake.
4) Find the problem or take up drinking![]()

Received my motor this week. Picked up my rebuilt trans and transfer case from the transmission shop. I'll start mocking everything up this weekend! Extremely Jazzed!!!View attachment 1524340 View attachment 1524341
A crate motor is outside of my budget... so I need to find a more economical option.
I'd likely buy a truck with a good Vortec & a bad fuel pump that I know of. It's likely only a $1500 truck, and the owner doesn't want to spend $800 to replace the fuel pump for a second time in three years. If he still hasn't flogged it, that'd be the way I'd go. After parting out or selling the rest of the clean truck I'd be far ahead of the $3-5g a crate motor would likely cost me here.
Fingers crossed it doesn't come to that. I'm not sure I could afford enough beer and pizza to bribe the help. Oh to be 20 again.
Would've been fun... but oh well. If it's something simple it'll be fixed quickly... otherwise I'll need to tidy up the garage and start a bigger project. Then project creep will set in and it'll be off the road for another year.
You've got a good point about flywheels & accessories... hadn't really thought about all the details that can turn it into a money pit.
Its a 351w stroked to 408. Lykins Motorsports built it for me. I told him what I wanted and the intended use, and he took it from there. it dynoed @ 411hp/490 ft# of torque with a good idle and should have no overheating issues. A mild build for him. Trans is a np435 out of my '70 LC that burnt in a storage fire. I was able to save the ARBs and transfer case as well, but that was it. It was Ford powered too. Starting overVery nice! What engine did you go with? My 283 gave up the ghost so I'm currently shopping.
