What seat belts for rear fold-n-tumble seats?

We have a similar situation with our FJ40 and are considering getting a forward-facing rear jump seat for the kids. In my research, I found that CCOT's seat here Seat Bench FJ40 for $473.61. The same seat from Summit Racing, http://www.summitracing.com/search/?keyword=39435&dds=1 without the "prop stick" or seat belts is $279.95. The Bestop part number is 39435-01 for black vinyl and 39435-09 for the gray vinyl.

(The Bestop website with the seats is here: bestop-product)

What seat belts choices do we have out there? Where did you guys get your seat belts for the rear seat replacing your jump seats, and what are the part numbers and the cost? It looks like a lap belt is the only option, but let me know what you all have done.

Also, what size of bolts / hardware have you used to install the seats, and do you know of any particular rubber grommet that will fit the holes once you remove the forward-facing rear seat and reinstall your jump seats?

How does anyone older than 10 yrs old get into a rear bench seat in a 40? How do you buckle a car seat in without seriously straining something? Of course, I'm getting older and fatter so maybe it's clearer to some of you. My kids loved the jump seats in the 72 we had back then and my grandkids love the jump seats in the 77 I have now. No highway driving, just trips to the park and the store. Most of the time...

Well i am gonna go ahead and go with the best top seat I got off of CL for 100 bucks. I will store the jump seats for now. Thanks for the info everyone. Truthfully, while I was typing the OP I was thinking, "dude this is your kids you are talking about!!".....

My kids are 4, 3, and 18 months so I got a while before they get too big!

I am interested in knowing what to use to secure it to the tub. I know use grade 8 bolts and stuff, but I dont want to screw up and drill extra holes in the tub because I eff up!

These was what I had. May be of interest to you.... Was undecided and that made me to have 1 bench and 1 front forward seat. I have only 1 daughter and she was then 11 years old...

I saw a guy make brackets that came off the fender well and roll bar that
mounted the jump seats facing forward. Probably not as good as a real seat facing forward, but still kind of a novel idea I thought. :)

Go with the Bench Seat.

I used one out of a 2003 Jeep Rubicon with the LATCH system for baby seats. It folds/stows nicely and can be easily removed. I feel that it is a much safer option than the jump seats for kids.

Have to admit I've been pondering doing just that, but likely wont. I have one long jump seats, and been looking at building a craddle for it that spans between the roll bar mount plates. Would need to modify the seat frame somewhat to work. And then there is the narrow area of back rest when it is in use. Did a bit of a mock up and I do think it looks right for the truck. But I'll likely end up going with a fold/tumble set up from a suzuki or something instead in the interest of comfort and safety :meh:.

you have any detailed pics of the seat? I am in the same boat. My son is 7 months and I am wanting to start taking him out in the 40.

Could you build a cradle for the bench that uses existing jump seat mounting locations?

I grew up in the jumpseat of my dad's 'cruiser. I cannot tell you how many tomes I cracked the back of my head on the rollbar. That being said, I think I turned out fine, though others may disagree...On second thought, Dude, go with the bench!

That's hilarious Had the same thing happen to me when we would travel in the cruiser.

Just buy a after market TJ seat and drill hole ... Don't do a CJ or YJ seat they are to narrow for the tub ... pm me I can get you club cost at 4Wheelparts for any Mud member as well
