I have 11K miles on my Falken AT4W’s, highway noise hasn’t been an issue. Wet traction in the rain has been good. No experience in the snow with them. My off roading has been limited to chasing trout so nothing extreme. Wear seems to be going good right now.
But where does that weight show up? I have a 2 inch lift and Im running 285/75-16’s. With cruise control set at 72 (thats 72 on the GPS) I’m getting 13+ mpg on the highway. I haven’t measured them, but if I remember correctly they measure closer to 33” than other similarly sized tires; so is the weight coming from their actual size?
I looked into OEM but for $100 + shipping I figured I might as well look into and upgrade and came across these. The quality, simplicity and longevity are a great addition.

TFLoffroad recently tested BFG vs Falken vs Firestone in the snow. The Falken A/T4W tested horribly under their test conditions. They were so bad that they reached out to the manufacturer. The Tyre Review on YT also had the A/T4W also performing poorly in the snow, compared to its competition, but not as badly as TFLoffroad shown them to be. Tyre Review had the K02 in their test, and not the newer K03s.
I just recently went with K03s (LT285/75R18) and I am impressed with their snow performance. I was recently trying to activate my ABS on snow to bleed it, and the tires would just grip and stop my LX450, rarely activating the ABS. My Lightning would immediately lock the tires on the same road, activate its ABS and still took much longer to stop. Its tires are just M+S rated and not Three Peak.
I would bet as you cut those zip ties and start pulling out the mess, you'll find maybe 5 or 6 wires that need to be repaired. They always look worse than they really are.
I started undoing that mess zip tie by zip tie yesterday. Once I got the mess straightened out so that I could see what was what, I found the most of the factory wiring is there, just mucked around with. Very fixable.
There is a "black box" that likely contains a remote start, and a motion sensor (a "Clifford" DEI 504c control unit). The trick is going to be fixing the wiring between the connections under the wheel... as most are spliced so that they run through the remote starter...
Started her for the first time in over a month. Sent my front diff back to marlin crawler for warranty repair. They replaced the air line. Got the diff installed with some fresh rotors and pads but after sitting in the cold for over a month she was dead. Scooped up a Noco 10amp battery charger, got her charged up overnight and she fired right up. Was able to test the front locker and thank goodness it works this time! My old compressor isn’t too happy though so need to reseal that because it keeps cycling. Here’s a video of a very cold start and front locker testing.
Nah it’s not the seal housing o-rings. The compressor cycles the same with or without the locker engaged. I already opened up the compressor once to clean it tighten everything but if you spray it with soapy water you can see bubbles. Might just open it up and slap some rtv on there or get an actual compressor reseal kit. It’s the first generation single arb compressor so it’s tired.
It’s been a long time, but I finally picked up an 80 I plan to keep. My first Land Cruiser was its twin and funny enough this one is coming from about 30 minutes from where I grew up. It will make a great addition next to the 40!

1991 3FE - I put in a new alternator and replaced all belts with oem parts from Toyota these last 3 days, lots of time but it has solved my voltage issues, squealing ps at low rpm and rough idle. Biggest hiccup was getting the harness and connector to fit the new alt.
