Turns out the window came out of the channel keeper at the bottom. The PO appears to have used black window mastic to glue it in rather than get the replacement filler.

I was able to pull most of that mastic out.

To get back on the road, I cut up a spare MTB inner tube and hammered it back on the glass. I tried to mark the prior location of the channel with tape. Hopefully I’m close, don’t have the FSM handy for measurements. Seems very secure actually…Gonna trim the inner tube and get the glass back in.

Will be replacing both channel and the rubber filler. Hopefully this gets me home. Good times.
The scariest thing I've ever done working on an 80 was pounding the rear door glass into the that channel with a hammer...the first time. That's really strong piece of glass.

Finally got around to putting new tires on the 80. I went from the Yokohama Geolandar MT to the BFG KO3. I forgot what it was like having an AT tire and how quite things can be with them.

They have about 30 miles on them and so far I really like them. There is minimal difference in weight, the KO3 is less than a pound lighter.

But now onto why you reading this... pictures. View attachment 3834468

The last picture makes it look as if it is squatting in the rear but I assure you it is not.

Glad you are enjoying the new KO3 tires.

Funny thing is I switched in July from some well-worn KO2s to the Geolander 003 mud terrains. The Geolanders look better (IMHO) and so far (only a few thousand miles on them) have worked well, including in the snow over the last week.

My 003 Geolandar were great tires had I known I had a nasty toe issue causing a positive camber wear issue. They are the quietest MT I have seen or heard.

I drive a panel van for a living and when you can hear someones aging MT tires over the rattling of the van their tires are not the best.

Replaced the dying seatback nets with these from @plaidwagon . Waterjet aluminum and press braked with some replaceable parachord.

I looked into OEM but for $100 + shipping I figured I might as well look into and upgrade and came across these. The quality, simplicity and longevity are a great addition.

I have the same seats. Did you order gray? I think I like that look better than the dark brown ones.

Ha ha. I just wailed on it with a rubber hammer…thought that I should have spritzed it with some soapy water about 10 whacks in but was committed at that point. In retrospect, it did feel sketchy.

Helped Joe put in a a monster LS 6.2 in

I'm still struggling with my AT tire choices, probably have 6 months to figure it out. I want good off-road performance balanced with near-best on-road performance, including rain and snow. There's a three way tie for first place depending on my mood.

BFG KO3 - Some sources still complain about balancing, but I think this is my front runner
Nitto TG G3 - I liked my OG Terra Grapplers, but the G3 tested last at tyrereview.com
Falken A/T3W - Some say stiff, heavy sidewall impacts handling. Mixed info on road noise.
Toyo OC III - Mixed opinions on road noise, some saying loud. Less aggressive tread.

The hard thing about tires is that most people reviewing them have no real clue. Few of us drive enough tires to really have a qualified opinion, and many of the problems we see reported are actually caused by the the vehicle or the installer.

"I have [x], so [x] is the best!"

Im running 285s KO3 AT on my sequioa since Nov 24, no issue balancing but......runs smaller. No difference to KO2. Still sketchy in super wet conditions.
Look into Yokohama geolandar AT-X or anything X (hybrid) like mentioned above.

I know the K03’s are supposed to be better in wet weather, but my experience with the K02’s was so bad I think BFG must’ve bribed someone for the 3PMSF rating. The Falkens were great, but the AT3’s are getting phased out in favor of the AT4’s in most sizes. Reviews on the AT4 are mixed although they’re making a C-rated 35x11.50x17 that will likely be my next tire.

It seems KO2s, G2s, etc, lots of tires came out and seemed to disappoint, now replaced with newer versions with fewer expert reviews....

All those are great choices when it comes to tires. I haven't used the bottom 3 but can say good things so far about my KO3. Honestly I think they are quieter than the previous KO2.

When I had the KO2 they did well in sanding silt/mud. The tread did fill up but never lost traction. So with the new design of the KO3 I am sure they will be as good if not better.

The best testing I've seen claimed the KO3s have better wet, dry, and snow traction, are quieter than the KO2. The guy at tyrereview.com does a lot of great tire tests and he usually ends up picking the WP or the KOs.

Tyrereview ranked the G2s dead last, but I can't find similar testing with the new G3. I see a lot of positive "owner reviews" but I don't give owner reviews a lot of credit.

Had a lot of whining on cold mornings…. from my power steering. Not just from my kids 😂. Flushed the power steering fluid with the help of my 4yo daughter and my 7yo son. Jacked up the front and rested the axle on jack stands. Disconnected the return line from the PS reservoir, poked a clear hose down into the return hose, put an empty ATF bottle under the metal nipple of the reservoir and got to turning the wheel.

After cycling the wheel back and forth for a while, I started adding fresh fluid to the reservoir. The return like started spitting out pink/red fluid into my catch can. Topped the system off and started the engine. Added some more fluid until the whine went away. It’s good to go.

And now this thread is back on track.

@tech_dog you might consider the cooper stronghold. My father in law has them and they seem like legit good contenders for the KO3.

Not on your list but I’ve really liked my Cooper AT3 XLT’s; quiet, round, good wet and surprising off-road. Not much snow and ice in the south so I can’t offer much up there, I’d buy them again.

I have 11K miles on my Falken AT4W’s, highway noise hasn’t been an issue. Wet traction in the rain has been good. No experience in the snow with them. My off roading has been limited to chasing trout so nothing extreme. Wear seems to be going good right now.
