Goodbye 16” wheels. New to me wheels/tires. SCS gen5 17x9 -38 with 315/70R17 KO2s. Came in just under what a new set of 315/75R16 KO3s would’ve ran.

What did I do today? Well... I awoke to the sound of smashing metal and screeching tires last night at 2AM. It came from the street below my house, where my precious Honu is parked and I immediately knew it was bad news.

My baby had been hit. 😔

Thankfully the damage to the drunk a******'s vehicle was worse, and he only managed to get half a block away before his Kia quit on him. I called 911 and CHP arrived quickly, finding the driver wasted. After their usual DUI routine they provided him with some much deserved fancy silver bracelets and hauled his bitch ass off to jail.

And to make matters worse I had to work in a few hours so I was only able to scrape up the broken pieces, I haven't had time to fully assess the damage.

At first glance it appears I got lucky, bumper cap and fender flare took most of the impact, then he hit my tire full on. The wheels were pointed straight when parked, and are now HARD driver... so I'm worried my steering linkage might be beat.

I won't know till I get off on Friday and have time to check it out further. So pissed. But luckily no one innocent was hurt, and hopefully Honu's not too terribly damaged.
Just a heads up…..sometimes insurance companies will total vehicles like our 80 series trucks on a whim….or a scratch. Just please be aware what might happen if you go through your insurance (or the drunk F%&Ks as well). That person that hit you may not even have auto insurance. This sucks man, I hope this gets resolved without too much headache/heartache or wallet damage.

Switched out the air cleaner and dumped the tuna can.

Swapped out the old fusible link in a parking lot. Been having intermittent no start issues which shifted to complete no start today. I think this fusible link was original to the 80. Now need to replace the junction box since the plastic cover is broken.

It's offset by the fact I can't remember names
My ex father in law spent 40 years in parts. He’s the same way. Can’t remember your name but can quote you the part number from memory for 1992 Chevy big block one ton starter, some obscure part for a late 90s Pontiac, or even odd ball VW and Toyota parts from the last decade the franchises he finished his career at .

That's one thing I was afraid of... but the alternative of not filing a claim and then potentially having to spend out of pocket for a jacked up rig is s***ty too. Spoke with my neighbor who is a former adjuster, and he said if it does come down to TL (total loss) then I have the ability to hire a private appraisal. He also said adjusters are up to speed on unique and collector vehicles, commonly citing Bring A Trailer auctions as comparable values.

I'm hopeful it doesn't get totaled. But I have faith that if it does I'll get a fair market value for it.

Took some better pics in daylight. At the very least the alignment is completely out of whack. It drove and steered fine. But the wheel is a good 1/4 turn off center.
Yeah the drag link needs to be replaced, that’s the one to rotate to align your steering wheel.

What a bummer....Obviously by your new pics, the drag link is toast, but I'd also plan on replacing the rear tie bar too that links the front wheels together as I can't see how that's not damage too with the hit. Another hidden concern might be the sector shaft in the steering box that the pitman arm attaches to...these tend to twist a bit under harder off roading conditions, may be worth looking at. Check out some of the steering box rebuild threads and you can see how the shaft twists which could then be a weak point in your steering system in the future.

Something like this....Image borrowed from Cruiseryard
