I need to pull mine apart and see if it is something this simple. Can't worry about fuel mileage if you don't have a trip meter to keep track of it, though. 😁
Really quite simple!
If you do decide to tackle this job make sure to change any bulbs.
The trip meter has a spring with a slotted shaft, there is a tiny pin which needs to be pushed over into the slot. I was able to push it over with a finger.

I had my windshield replaced yesterday by GlassTek in Alameda CA based on many recommendations in this forum. I brought them an OEM gasket and they supplied a bronze tinted windshield to match the rest of my glass. When I made the appointment I mentioned that the FSM requires the glass to be installed with an adhesive but I failed to mention it again when I dropped off the truck. When I picked it up I noticed no adhesive odor and asked if they had used any to which they replied that they had not. We discussed it further and they said they've done many 80-series cruisers in recent years, never used adhesive, and had no comebacks. They also said that they guarantee their work for as long as I own the vehicle and to bring it back if I have any issues. Just thought I'd share that here to see if anyone had thoughts or advice.

Chick-fil-a did me wrong....
You think I should take this up with Corporate?

So when I bought the LX450, it had a big thick black leather cover on the steering wheel, and I always hated it. I took it off a few weeks ago, and finally got around to wrapping the stock wheel in paracord. I’m hilariously inept with knots, but finally figured this out consistently about halfway across the top of the wheel, hahaha. Turned out well, and I’m pleased!

I also recently put together a screw down solution for my traction boards on the roof rack, for under $20, by pinching a few base nuts narrow enough to slide into the grooves , and then screw down into them with longer plastic-topped posts. So nothing sticks up more than about a cm when it isn’t on there. Has so far held on the highway!

Unfortunately, I couldn't tell you exactly. It was just a random bit of hardware on the big wall of hardware at the local Ace. I suspect if you take the picture in with you, you can find the same thing about as easily as I could re-find it next time I'm back there. Then find a post with a plastic knob on the end that fits the nut, and voila!
