Fix the leak. Jack the front wheels up, fill the reservoir, and with engine off cycle the steering wheel from stop to stop. You may have to do this a few times, and steering should feel smoother. This will evacuate air in the system. Fill as...

You should be able to hot wire the solenoid with a + lead from the battery. Apply power by tapping and listen for the click.

If she starts fast once warmed up definitely the glow system. Normally one will change all of the glow plugs. Just one bad plug will leave smoke and rough idle until that cylinder warms up. Not certain about you system but chances are that it...

Squash replied to the thread Unknown wire.
Looks like a glow system patch. Grab the wire and move it around, imagine where it can go! There is probably another wire lurking around just waiting for a connection. Note: That other wire could be a different colour.

Squash replied to the thread Real time help: Fuel starvation.
Imagine sucking on a good straw. Now try sucking on a straw with a hole in it. Your fuel system is sort of the same. Find the vacuum leak. If possible try using a section of clear hose. Bubbles in the line indicate a vacuum leak. Double check the...

Evanston WY to Cheyenne across WY on 80 with 75mph tailwind 18mpg in my 94. Cheyenne WY to Evanston across WY on 80 with 75mph headwind 4mpg in my 94. Normal conditions, sane highway driving, 12 is normalish.

Well, The 80's are really like pushing a sheet of plywood into the wind. The faster you push the more energy wasted. Now factor in what you carry inside, what you have attached outside, and of course the tires. Everything is using fuel. Then of...

Check the preload on front wheel bearings. Lift front tires off of the ground and give them a heavy 3/9 and 6/12 o'clock test. If any looseness is detected tighten things up. I run 20ft pounds on the inner nut as opposed to the factory specs...

Jumpered the DIM relay and the high fuse/s Either way the hi beams and blue Dash indicator light up. I believe the manuals are pretty close, so thanks in advance. In the process of getting a whole stalk assembly and or part # 84140-12260 which...

Either the dimmer relay or the combination switch. Use a jumper at the dimmer relay, then flash your high beams. Should rule out which of the two has bunged up.

Works when jumpered. Leaning towards a wire because this happened at night after a bigger bump of many bumps on a 80km logging road used as a shortcut between two highways during my latest 1000km ski/fishing trip. Luckily I have a roof rack...

Have you solved this? My 1995 hdj80 lost high beams and dash indicator. No power to high beam fuses, but can light the high beams if I jumper a fuse.

Mine lasted ~ 30 days. Pry opened it and found out that the contacts were poorly aligned. Sanded the oxidation down and properly aligned the two contacts so they are flushed when the relay engages. Do not align by bending the steel spring plate...

Hi, So last night while cruising my main and high beams went off... Checked the dimmer relay and there was my problem again... A burned relay as you can check in the pic, this was 2.5 years old. Placed a spare relay that was carrying, also...

Have you solved the high beam issue. My 1995 HD FT 80 just started with your exact issue. Testing the fuses under the hood reveal no power to high beam fuses. Power at Low Beam fuses. I seem to recall that both High and Low beam fuses have...

Ok the 3B is fixed! So I was fully convinced either the injector pump had failed or the timing gears had somehow failed. I was about to start pulling half the car apart and I thought I better ring the injector shop first to check how long their...

79 series also work. Fronts are direct replacement as are pads and calipers. Rear brake drum components also swap out. I was able to pick up complete rears, backing plates, brakes and hubs at $400.00, now have found a supplier how will sell for...

35"tires will always loosen bearings! Hence a check and tightening pre-load over the factory specs.... Do this easy thing first and then move along to any other issues. Own a few cruisers, so I've seen and done it.

Having re-read the post I can say the spindles are interchangeable between our 75, 79 and 80 series as well as others. If the spindles fit the bearings fit, and as such any hub will fit. Years ago our 75's where upgraded to 79 series hubs just to...

I have had 79 hubs on an 80. The key is the spindle but don't really worry because it's normally a part number change. You can even use 79 series C.V's with 80's drive flanges if you slightly grind the outer shaft above the snap ring. Pretty...

Have you personally checked the wheel bearing? Lift both tires or one at a time and feel for any play in the hubs. I just did my Hdj80 last week, bearings were slightly loose. Tightened inner nut to 20ft lbs( not factory spec) and she is nice and...
