Crawled up the rig bc the slight exhaust leak was suddenly a lot louder. Turns out the O2 sensor is just sitting there beside the pipe. Looks like a relatively new sensor (had the rig 2 yrs) but probably not properly torqued. hope the studs are not too rusted to bolt it back in.

Mountain life...for the weekend.

Skies were muggy with all the recent fires in the area but it was still a great weekend away from the valley heat

Thanks - it says Metalcraft Innovations. Plug for the small local shop that built these for me.

I call BS! There is NO WAY I could sleep if I had them vehicles as mine!!! A “kid at Christmas” doesn’t compare to the excitement you must feel when you wake up every morning knowing they are YOURS!!!
Sadly the Maltec 200 series is not mine. My wife and are taking advantage of the chance to test for them and lovin it.

I finally finished a roof rack project that was started two years ago. Had to blast a thick coat of rust off the rack. I bought 8 gutter mounts from Trail Taylor last year and decided to join them into pairs in order to make roof rack install and removal for one guy possible. And I also began work on my version of a rear track bar riser bracket.

Dug the wife's camper out of the garage and went up to State Forest State Park for some family style camping with my parents and bro's Family. As usual, wife has all the good pictures. 80 pulled the camper like a boss--the lower speeds and grades up hwy 14 made it really easy compared to i-70

Weekend project was the steering knuckle rebuild. It took two full days, with the second side being much easier and faster than the first. Some notes:

1. Put the new wheel bearing races in the freezer and the hub in the sun, makes it much easier to drive these in. The trunion bearings weren't hard at all to drive in.
2. The cone washers can be a hassle. I used a multi pronged approach, hammer with brass punch, propane torch and pb blaster.
3. The wheel bearing preload part was new to me so I spent a lot more time than usual reading threads on here, manuals, etc. I ended up going with the 50 ft/lb, spin it back and forth, back it off to hand tight and spin, then back to 30 ft/lb, add the lock ring and lock nut and tighten the lock nut to 47 ft/lb, then lock down. Feels solid but still spins well. I didn't bother with a spring scale.
4. One of the brake caliper bolts put up a decent fight but the rest weren't bad.
5. As everyone else mentioned, its a super messy job. Have way more rags, paper towels and cleaners than you think you will need.
6. The axle oil seals were a hassle to remove. I ended up bending one edge of them inward with a screwdriver and hammer and pulled them out with some pliers. This probably isn't the best method but it worked. A seal puller would have been a good investment.
7. Although its a big job its also very satisfying. In my case a wheel bearing was going bad and I was able to see the the pitting and damage to the race. After completion its smooth and quiet.
8. The small bolt for the ABS sensor can be used to pull the axle back out when needed to add the snap ring.
