Not weekend, but my '93 FZJ charge light, AT/temp light and a few others greeted me on Tuesday morning before work...
What a day Tuesday would be. Freezing rain over night made a mess of everything, of course all my preparations had been to the 80... 120V heater on the dash running all night to keep ice from forming on the windshield, towel hanging from the roof rack covering the drivers door so I could open it in the morning... All worked as planned, for nothing.
Diagnosed it to the alternator being dead. Of course this meant all the ice from the whole truck was melting and dripping onto my shop floor (no drain), so I actually stopped a few times, backed the truck out and squeegeed the floor. Anyway - Ordered a reman Denso from Rock Auto with expedited shipping. Thawed out my wife's -solid block of ice- car and was 2.5 hours late for work. Hour and a half after arriving at work, left work to put out a structure fire. Left that to go back to work, but 3 minutes into the drive turned around and went on a second call.... Never made it back to work Tuesday. Fire training Tuesday night and a 1AM medical call made for a very tired Wednesday, but a welcome end to Tuesday!
Alternator arrived Thursday, put it in Thursday night after work in 22 minutes, no more lights! (And as an added bonus my clock started working again!)
Have to say, Rock Auto slaughtered every price everywhere else I looked... Most places were pretty close to double, plus the core charge. FYI, it's a reman Denso, same as I would get from Toyota. Local Toyota dealer says there is one original in Californa.... (Of the original part number, not the superseded part number) so for anyone with a dire need for an OEM, you can see if you can snag it for a mere $800 some odd dollars. No superseded part number alternators available from Toyota, so far as they could see.
Glad that's all over with - although her TDI is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay more fuel efficient!
