What Did You Do with Your 80 This Weekend? (90 Viewers)

Installed a Tatton DC front shaft. Thing is solid, a bit narrower than OEM but thicker-walled.

Learned benefit of *tapered* 14mm impact sockets for this job. If anyone has insight into how (what tool) to properly torque the DC end of a shaft I'd love to know, I fashioned an extended crescent wrench tool but am looking for other ideas, there is very little room in there..

I use a box end wrench just like at the diff ends and I’ve never had one come loose in near 30 years of wheeling.

Well, swung for the fences and struck out. No 40s going home with me. Such is life.

Long story short it worked out for the best. I actually know the guy that owns them all. Maybe in the future. Plus what I really want is a patinad 40 that runs. I sure AF don’t want a fiberglass tub...

Did you go in the palisades or the Waterville side?

Went in the Palisades side. Took a wrong turn and ended up tackling some hills that were obviously meant for dirt bikes. Not what I had in mind, but the kids in the back thought it was a blast. Here's some video of one particularly steep part that, of course, doesn't look nearly as bad as it did in person. 20171104_104910.mp4

Once in the park we explored for a couple hours under the theory that "no signs means no problem." So, we opened a couple gates and drove around. That was easily the best part of the trip. Some of those roads haven't been touched in a long time and the views are stunning.

Installed @Matthew Spencer 's cool 3D printed seat levers and a new DS seatbelt to replace the roached unit. Did not trace the cause of my low idle, nor clean my AFM, mostly because I wasn't able to successfully pull the multipin connector from the AFM. Didn't want to force it because the plastic is really baked and brittle, and breaking it would escalate the problem. So will go to mech during the week, who will do a comprehensive check for vacuum leaks, which he suspects it is.

Long story short. Reunited the renter (and owner of 40s) with the rentee. They are all for sale but none are complete or reasonably priced. And the most complete have fiberglass tubs.

Changed the front pads and realized I have a frozen front caliper! Then one of the birf seems to click once a while and left front bearing is a bit loose! Old girl need some TLC!

If you want to get proper torque value, hook one of these up 90° to a torque wrench.

So while the 80 is apart I gave my 1st Gen 4runner some love and have been daily driving it before it goes into winter storage.

So while the 80 is apart I gave my 1st Gen 4runner some love and have been daily driving it before it goes into winter storage.
