Is your latch warn out? Is it attatched to the aft side of the swing out? I don't have any issues wih mine unless I forget to engage the latch of course.....

Latch is perfect, installed on the vehicle toward the rear, adjusted very tight. It's just that the weight of the spare on the end of such a long lever gets to oscillating a LOT over certain pavement features. The problem got worse when I welded the spare mount to the crossbar.. I'm guessing the system being stiffer transferred the force into twisting the crossbar like a torsion bar spring vs the bolts and clamp sliding a little absorbing energy.

I'm considering experimenting with something of a tuned damper attached to the spare mount flange... It should work a lot like the slipping clamp that used to be present. if it works I'll post it up.

Thanks. I'm on OME heavies with a 1" spacer to level the front, OME mediums on the rear. With a light front bumper and no rear bumper (stock, sans bumper wings) I get about 3" of lift. For tires, I'm on 315/75/16 Duratracs. Those are awesome tires for the purposes I use them for. They hook up really well on Colorado rocks and dirt, especially at 10-12 PSI. I'm thinking about adding a 1" body lift to get a little more clearance for exhaust and tires.

Thanks! I have the duratracs in 33s and really like them as well. I am looking at the OME heavy lift as I'm soon to be armored up. Really like the stance on your rig.

I worked on a bit of body work yesterday. The hood on the cruiser was in rough shape. The clearcoat was pitted and flaking all over it. This was one of the reasons I blacked out the center section, to cover the worst of the peeling. But the sides of the hood were also bad so I sanded them down and repainted them. I had some 1A6 color mixed up and put into rattle cans. I did a primer, base coat and clearcoat. Turned out pretty good for being rattle canned, and the color match was quite good.

I fixed (refreshed) the CDL sensor/switch on our 80, CDL light works again and of course f/r lockers too.

I took the old girl up to Drummond Island, MI and explored some of the state trails. There wasn't anything that the truck couldn't handle. There were plenty of gorgeous views though.

I rode on a ferry for the first time!

All in all, it was a great way to spend the 4th.

Born and raised in the Traverse City area and lived in the U.P. for a short time. That was when we made our only camping trip over to Drummond island. I was pretty young but I will never forget the swarms of thirsty mosquitos.

Odd, the OEM radiator cap lasted me about a year. Both gaskets are completely swollen and the smaller has a little piece missing. No issues because of it but it's odd that it wouldn't last very long.

I got the paint from my local auto paint supply store, Superior Autobody Paint Supply in SLC, UT. I have used them for years. I got all the paint supplies for my old FJ40 back in 1999 and have used them several times since.

It was, but a boulder fell and blocked the road near labryinth. It happened while we were near Murphy.

You think it was only a year old but maybe it got swapped with the cap from my 93 "accidentally"...

Well this has taken more than the weekend but has cleared many projects all at once even if it took a month. First thing, gut interior, apply sound deadener (no 20% rule here, rule was cover it if I could reach it). I then added a layer (in some cases two) of heat insulator called EZ Cool, this has reduced interior heat around the transmission tunnel and front passenger side dramatically. This was where two layters of EZ Cool were applied. I used aluminized duct tape to hold down the EZ Cool. I also ran new wires, distribution blocks, new fuse box in the drivers back quarter, new amp in the passenger quarter, new speakers, HU and powered sub. Along with the new stereo I of course had to add a backup camera and ran new wiring for my rear LED's. I have a buddy with access to a waterjet so I had him cut my brackets out of 1/8" aluminum. Cannot forget about my new tailgate storage from socallove, of course it is lined on the inside as well.
