Latch is perfect, installed on the vehicle toward the rear, adjusted very tight. It's just that the weight of the spare on the end of such a long lever gets to oscillating a LOT over certain pavement features. The problem got worse when I welded the spare mount to the crossbar.. I'm guessing the system being stiffer transferred the force into twisting the crossbar like a torsion bar spring vs the bolts and clamp sliding a little absorbing energy.baldilocks said:Is your latch warn out? I'm considering experimenting with something of a tuned damper attached to the spare mount flange... It should work a lot like the slipping clamp that used to be present. if it works I'll post it up.
